i just want to say a couple things of what i beleive after reading all of these answers.
i think that drinking alcohol is only considered a sin because when you're drunk you don't care about a lot, therefore making it easier for you to go out a commit a sin without even realizing it.
as for weed, im still not sure....
there are so many answers.
personally, i dont do it, but i am curious
as for the people who do.
for people who say hevy metal is a sin..
they're ridiculous! again, some of this
music tends to be unchristian and trys
to put sh!t in your head, but im smarter
than that. i'm not going to pay attention
to the demonic lyrics, i just love the rhythms and the guitar.
so basically....i just beleive its all about
WHO YOU ARE. if you cant handle drinking
because you completely lose yourself when you drink too much, dont do it.
and same with metal. if you're going to be influenced by the words and beleive them, you probably shouldnt listen to it.

The Bible does speak against drunkeness, so yes, getting drunk IS considered sinful, however, just consumation of alcohol is not.
Weed is debatable, I suppose. The Bible does say that we should obey the laws of man, and so illegal use of marijuanna is frowned upon (for the US, at least), but medicinal is ok.
Heavy metal, no.
HOWEVER, all these are judgement calls, or at least the last two are. If you feel that listening to Heavy Metal detracts you from your relationship with God or makes you a lesser person, then it's a sin. Same with weed. If you smoke it for recreation and find you're spending all your money on it or whatever, then yeah, it's a sin, or so I would say.

I think you know the answer to these questions already but I'll try;
Drinking alcohol is not a sin but getting drunk is the sin. They will tell you not to drink alcohol at all because it is very possible to get drunk from there, so they say it to prevent drunkeness ( flee all appearances of evil) that is the reason for that advice.
smoking weed is illegal so that is wrong.
I don't know about heavy metal but I can say that music is of many persuations, in other words they have emotions behind them that usually reflects on the listener depending on what kind of music it is. some of them calm you, some make you think, some put you in moods, so it makes sense to stick with things that don't make you lose all sensibilities and things that are pleasant.

None of the above.
Drinking alcohol, while irresponsible while done in excess would not be considered immoral unless you hurt yourself or others.
Smoking pot, see above.
Heavy metal. NO! NO! NO! That's ridiculous, because it has a sound many traditional Christians don't like it can be branded as Anti-Christian. The truth is, the only obscenely anti-Christian genre of metal is black metal (Burzum, Gorgoroth, 1349) many of these bands have Satanic gimmicks, however there is much secular, and Christian music even in this genre (Secular is even considered bad by some extreme Christians, these people are typically intolerant and in that, unchristian, but by that logic, every music genre in and of itself is unchristian). Think about metal for a moment, much of it does have a legitimate message, as opposed to most pop, rap, etc, that talks largely about nothing. And that's coming from someone who is not even a big metal fan.

1. drinking. yes for alcohol is man made and not natural and bible says to be and stay sober. wine is different for it is natural as it is a grape that has gone sour for the most part. also why science keeps realizing that alcohol hurts us but wine helps the body.
2. smoking weed is a natural item and a gift from G_D. Genesis 1:29 clearly tells us this. The fact you smoke or eat it will give the same healing effects. The main front guy for the past 20 yrs who has been the reason for the misleading information just recently did a test that was published in the Washington Post. His biggest study to date concluded that smoking pot, of any amount does not give cancer, not even lung cancer. And the results showed that THC is actually a bonding agent to dead cells in the body and allows the body to flush them. In turn preventing cancers. To date they can claim THC can prevent 3 types of cancer.
3. Music of any type is okay until the lyrics go bad. I am a Minister by title but do not lead a church nor wear a collar but I jam to AC/DC all the time. But groups like Dio, Iron Maiden that I use to be into as a kid I no longer listen to for their lyrics are of evil nature. Like anything in life, there is good n bad. And some are not blatent with lyrics. The song Yahweh by U2 is a song named after G_D for that is G_D's true name. Yet the videos I have seen for the song are all bad and show major satanic and pagan items.
As the bible says, there is deception everywhere, do you have eyes to see and ears to hear?

Samantha,
I personally do not drink ANY Alcoholic products because I believe it is sinful to do so. The Bible talks about becoming drunk but one must also set a good example for other Christians and I intend to do so.
I do not use any unlawful drugs for the same reason. I want to set a good example for other Christians and I do not believe that marijuana is good for a person's health. Thus it must do damage to the body which is a Temple of our LORD.
At one time, I listened to a good deal of Hard Rock Music and was actually in a band as a singer. Much of the language in these forms of music are not Christ-like and I do not listen to them for that reason today.
If something can push or pull me away from GOD then I do not want to be involved in it at all. Have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks,
Eds (A simple Christian)

These depend on what kind of Christian you are; like Catholic, Lutheran, etc.
To some people drinking to get drunk may be gluttony or one of the seven deadly sins.
Smoking weed harms the body which is a gift from God and is also made in the image of God.
I doubt if God cares what kind of music you jam out to.

I haven't been drunk in years. But if one of my brethren tells me that it would be unchristian-like, I'm going to get some tequila and orange juice and grenadine. Yup. It would totally piss me off.
I don't like myself on weed, so I am staying away from it, maybe I would drink Tequila sunrises instead.
I will not be so carnal to think that I can please God by following after legalistic crap like what's being preached these days.
If those things are unchristian-like to them, I'm going to do it.
At least Martin Luther was right about that!

These things are sins. Sinning is christian-like. It is human like.
Hopefully as Christians, we hope for the best even when people make mistakes that hurt themselves. Good will toward man and all.
We do our best, and we expect that other people do too.

well, WWJD? "Whether therefore ye eat, or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do all to the glory of God." "What! know ye not that your body is a temple of the Holy Ghost, which is in you, which ye have of God, and YE ARE NOT YOUR OWN, FOR YE ARE BOUGHT WITH A PRICE, therefore GLORIFY GOD IN YOUR BODY AND IN YOUR SPIRIT, WHICH ARE GOD'S." i dont think this list of things glorifies the Lord, do u? a great preacher once said..."If in doubt, throw it out!" (concerning ur actions right vs. wrong)
