Someone told me 'everyone' hides sexual abuse in churches and she (yes she) said this specifically included the victims! Are people not concerned by how little the church and its followers understand child psychology?
Why do we have to drag churches AND their followers kicking and screaming into the Courts just to get justice?

Susan J - you seriously need help if you think people make up sexual abuse and willingly put themselves through years of Court proceeding just for a few dollars. You are part of the problem why kids don't come forward earlier.

Meg - it is sad that you feel/felt powerless. I am sure black people accepted your rational (that is just how it was back then) for apartheid too, but it doesn't make it acceptable to forget about it. I hope that you benefit from seeing those who have come forward.

Buddy, all I can say is that it's a truely messed-up world in which these Catholic priests, who're supposedly the hight of goodness, are trying to make 'the children come to them' as it were... Were I religious, I'd've lost my faith by now, I reckon.

Are you referring to me? Why do you think many of the victims didn't tell for so long? Look, friend, when I wrote "personal experience", I wasn't kidding. I had a child-molester LIVING IN MY HOUSE during the late 1970s and I was date-raped in 1982. NONE of this was reported to the police. Again, that was the way things were back then.
EDIT: I'm not saying to forget, just to put it in historical context. Being outraged makes about as much sense as being outraged that Thomas Jefferson owned slaves.

The church has more important things to worry about than a few thousand sexual predator priests. Didn't you get the notice from the pope? Surely you realize that by now.

Victims hide it because they might not want to embaress themselves by stepping forward. The possibility of press coverage just might be too much for them to handle. Victims have a right to step out or not, so it is not neccesarily the churches fault.
It becomes the church's fault when the church itself expects the victim to be quiet. The church does not want their church, followers, and their religion to look bad, so the worst is only seen when you are inside of it. The followers do the same.

The catholic church has had this problem for HUNDREDS of years and refuses to do anything about it! IF the catholic church would abide by the Word of God and allow their priest to marry, it would solve a lot of their problems!
You don't send these people from country to country, city to city, because you are concern about the kids these people "will" come in contact with! They are doing it to cover up! It's a crying shame that the catholics' here in America haven't came to this simple conclusion. Therefore, allowing their own kids to be at risk! And if they think that my comment is hateful, then heaven help them.
Susan J (3 above me), if the American catholic church is doing something about it, find. But even if they are, they are "only" doing it because of the pressure they are getting from the media. Which in itself should tell you something.
Do you have any idea what mama has been doing to girls in such places as Ireland, etc for YEARS? It was all in the media in the mid-nineties.

ordinarily, Catholics do no longer stand for this. Assuming what you have published is actual and you have contacted the bishop for that diocese without reaction, you will could do extra legwork. (Which, btw, sickens me. this could not be so perplexing.) touch the bishop of the subsequent diocese, a close-by cardinal, heck, detect a Jesuit professor someplace. As for the economic area of your remark, interior america there are very strict and strictly observed rules related to using contributions. as an occasion, as quickly as I supply to my church, that funds is in simple terms allowed for use for working expenditures at my church. (criminal expenses come from the diocese.) If I nonetheless felt cautious, i'd desire to coach that my donation would desire to basically be used for, say, toddler's bibles or nutrients for the homeless application.

I have no doubt that there are churches who hide sexual predators, or let their pastor who just committed heinous adultery continue preaching. It's because they are in sin, and refuse to confront it. Why, because of the repercussions they will face. Most people are scared to death to confront people's sin. They would rather stand idly by and just let it go, hoping no one will notice. It's sick really. Pastors or church members who commit these horrible sins need to be confronted. And just to be clear, not all churches are like this. Some fear God enough to do as He commands!

They hide the predators because they think that someone in that position of power can do no wrong, and when they find out that they can, they do everything to make sure that the person who thinks for them isn't punished, because then they would have no one to tell them what to do and how to think

Our churches policy is to call the police at any sign of wrong doing. i don't know about the Catholics but I think it is a very small percentage (100 out of 20,000,000) that is getting all the press.
