Amber only has advantages in low light conditions. In a very shady wood or near sunrise/sunset, you can really see the difference.

all the different colors are important and more a matter of preference i used the yellow ones at night in Iraq because they killed some off the glare off of street lights, but id switch to orange during the day because the yellow made things to bright if u go look at a set of wiley-x or ess glasses i believe on the sight they have a light scale to show when there tests found specific colors to be optimal (green, smoke, polarized etc.) the only way to really find out whats advantages is threw trial and air so go get a cheep set of walmarts that come with a couple of different color lens and find out what works best for U and the environment you'll be operating in

I use Day/Night Driving glasses that are ANSI certified safety glasses. They are a darker yellow, almost orange and even if the sun is glaring off of my stainless steel pistol it just looks like a bright dot on my gun through the glasses. No glare, and on the plus side since I drive a big truck day and night they come in handy too. You really notice the difference with these glasses when its raining at night. The headlights of on coming cars just look like two dots. No glare at all.

Personally, I believe that it comes down to personal preference. When I go to the range, I use clear lenses. But sometimes when I go hunting, or when I sight in my hunting rifle in the woods at my camp, I use my yellow lenses because it really does illuminate a lot of things.

I use the yellow tint indoors at the range. I feel it gives a little more contrast to the targets.

Personally, I prefer these lenses only on overcast/cloudy days. The contrast given by these on the said days gives me better concentration/focus on what I'm doing, weather it be shooting or even driving.

I have actually considered the yellow lenses a hindrance to my shooting. The glare on them was distracting. I'd much rather use clear ones, but that's a personal preference.

Yellow is better on cloudy days ... but if its sunny they give a bad glare

They're nice on your occasional hazy, drizzly, wet day if you don't have enough sense to stay indoors (a failing to which I often succumb). Otherwise, they're darned annoying and strain the eyes.
