As a Christian, hynopsis should not be practiced, as it allows access for oppressing spirits to enter, is mind manipulation, and a type of witchcraft.....it's kinda like putting your guard down without you consciously knowing it.....and I am so ready for the thumbs down, so go ahead and persecute me.....straight up sentiments, and His best blessings to you....

No I don't think it is I believe it opens you up to much for unwanted attacks and am not crazy when I say this when you go under hypnosis you are open to all suggestions, and I don't trust that someone may not be working for evil when they do this. Prior to becoming a christian I was hypnotized at a comedy show and had no control of myself not good in this time we live in, I mean just look at some of the questions in the category and the people asking them could you imagine them being in charge of your mind NO THANK YOU. God Bless You.

There is a difference between stage and medical hypnosis. Although the methods of obtaining hypnosis may be very similar, the end results and the purpose of the results are quite different. An anesthesiologist I am aware of has used these hypnotic techniques on many occasions. A child who must have a shot prior to being anesthetized, and who is extremely frightened, can be easily quieted and have a pleasant experience by using hypnotic techniques. He has used this on many patients prior to surgery. Frequently, a very apprehensive patient relaxes.
Reports have been received of unfortunate results to persons engaging in group hypnosis demonstrations or in popular mind control courses of study. … Many advise against participating in such activities.

Every church is different so I would check with the one you attend or your parents. I don't think it should be a problem if they understand that all hypnosis does is help you connect and speak to your sub-concious mind. When you dream, your doing the same thing and you can't control that. I'm not a Christian but I believe the sub-concious mind is one of many ways to communicate with God. It has a lot to do with who is doing it and if someone tells you they don't like it, they probaby just don't understand it. Ask if you both can research it together.

Just out of curiosity why would you say that you don't believe in hypnosis? I am a certified hypnotherapist and I cannot think of one good reason to indicate that hypnosis would violate any moral standard.
Hypnosis is simply a natural state of focused attention much like the state that your mind achieves during prayer or thoughtful meditation. It is completely safe since you achieve the trance state yourself the hypnotist is simply a guide.

Hypnosis is like a mental massage. All it does is relaxes the mind. It makes you more prone to suggestions and help you remember things.
Hypnosis is a tool like any other. A hammer by itself is just a hammer. It's what the person does with that hammer that is good or evil.
best wishes.

I'm not familiar with any docrtine against it. However, I think much of the answer many depend on who it is you seek this form of therapy from. I know quite a few Christian psychologists that perform hypnosis to the betterment of many people.

It works, but it depends on your mental prowess, gender, age, open-mindedness to it, and creativity/logic if YOU can actually be hypnotized. Some people cannot be. I've hypnotized one of my friends before and got him to stop smoking pot.
It's basically just a psychological therapy. There's nothing wrong about it. The stuff you see on TV about having people do something against their will under hypnosis is unrealistic. It only makes people more open to the power of suggestion.
That aside, why would you want a book and deity who ban everything from getting tattoos, to women wearing pants, to nor marrying a divorcee telling you what to do?

There are a lot of myths about hypnosis I think you should know. The myths are that you lose control of yourself (as though you are drunk), and that you can be persuaded to believe, say, or do things you normally wouldn't.
Under hypnosis, you still have total control of self; you can't be persuaded to do anything you wouldn't normally do, and you can't be persuaded to reveal any details about yourself.
