I'm just wondering how in the world protestants can say that Catholics aren't Christians. Anyone who has studied history knows that the Catholic church was the church of the early christians - the church started by Jesus Christ. So it just astounds me when protestants - who broke off from the catholic church, can now say that catholics are not christian.

Protestant's do not distinguish between Orthodox or Roman Catholics.

They pretty much group Catholics in one group, so this is also why I have done it.

General ignorance.

"There are not more than 100 people in the world who truly hate the Catholic Church, but there are millions who hate what they perceive to be the Catholic Church."

Bishop Fulton J. Sheen, 1895-1979

Sorry but having studied Christian history, taking a multitude of theology classes and studying the passages on which the RCC rests that case on in the original language I have to say that I find their claim a wee bit far fetched. Some people just have to have things their way or the highway that's why I attend a non-denominational church.

That said I would never tell a Catholic they were not a Christian simply because I am not God and thats not my job and I know many Catholics who are wonderful Christians :-D

If the Roman Catholic church is brought down, they think their version of Christianity would become paramount.....They are wrong.

The history of the Catholic church is bloody, full of one atrocity after another. Crusades, etc. the story never ends, including nearly every current paper and news agency in the world. Jesus did not start the Catholic church, it was born from Constantine's hatred for the Jews and idolatry added to Christianity from his pagan sun god worship. True, protestantism is just a bunch of disgruntled catholics. I am neither. But do trust Jesus as Savior of the world without all the Catholic idolatry and phony Christian holidays so many people are blindly following. I feel sorry for the common catholic. May God lead as many as possible to His truth.
Denominational-ism is a great tool of the Devil to divide the people of God.

Why do some Catholics claim that Protestant Christians are not true Christians?

That simply is not true. Jesus did not start what is now the catholic church...man did that. The Catholic church is religion... do this, waive that, repeat after me, etc. Jesus warned against vain repetitions and doing what Catholics now call common. The proof is in the pudding...show me your power catholic church...where are the miracles? The average Catholic can't quote one verse from the bible, spends no time in prayer and believes in very little...sorry but all of these are words are truth.

The Catholic church has favored the traditions of men over the things of God. It is also why so many gay priests, abusing children, are coming out of the wood work...it is God's judgment upon it.

The reason is that people can be very ignorant and talk quite a bit about things that they have little knowledge on. Some people talk just to hear their voice, others to stir up dissent. For example, take some of the answers that have been given to your question.

I honestly don't know why some think that. But could it be the same reason some non-Pagans insist that Pagans are worshiping a "devil" in whose existence Pagans do not even believe? You would think that the faithful know more about their own faith than do the outsiders.
