when he was a baby he saw his mom eat his poop while she was trying to keep his bed clean. He thinks that that is just what he should do. Pick up his poop right away and dont let him eat it. Eventually he will out grow it.

I've two dogs, one 14 years, the other 13 years. Over the years they've each shown themselve capable of eating poop, whether their own or each other's, or that of a stranger.
Of course, kitty roca (litterbox) has always been popular with each of them.
I asked my vet, who had over 30 years experience, WHY they do this. His reply: "Dogs are the ultimate recyclers".
Just keep the poop cleaned up and make sure your dog is getting a decent diet. The rest is out of human hands.

I like the answer, "Dog's are the ultimate recyclers." My vet suggests "Adolph's Meat Tenderizer," I'm not sure of the correct amount. Like was said in answer's, you can order from Dr. Foster and......... It's called "Distaste." I know that works because I've used it before. I've also used, "Quest" and that is a very good product, but hard to find. Eating 'poop' can become a very bad habit, do something to stop it now.

My dog used to do that. There is a counter bills you can add to the food which will give a scent of the poop where he wont want to eat it. It works really well. You can just get it from petsmart.

Well, he might just be playful. Maybe he is bored. My dogs always eat poop out of the litter box lol. Don't know why. They are just gross ya know. They do weird things. If he is not swallowing it, he is fine I would say. Just try to limit his access to it. Be careful that he does not do this to any other animal's poop because he could get parvo, and it will kill him.

It is somewhat common.. but not healthy for them.. there is something you can buy.. I know Dr.'s Foster and Smith have it.. i'm sure it would be available somewhere else though.. It's given either in pill form or liquid I believe.. that makes it distasteful for them.. I haven't tried it but I've heard it works.

Common behavior in hound dogs (beagles, bassets etc). Don't leave poo in the yard, and don't let him play with it. I suggest you make a specific spot in the yard for "potty" and a separate area for "play".

I do not know what to do about it but they eat it because there is still undigested food in it. Be careful is this is his thing because he can pick up worms and other germy things from eating other dogs duty. Good luck
