I'm looking for some ideas for my daughters 2 birthday coming up. I'd like to do something a little different from the normal cake. Most of the kids that will attend do not eat alot of sweets; cakes candies etc.... I'd still like to have something for her and the kids. I was hoping you guys had some suggestions for me. Thanks

You could do sundaes but with yogurt and let them add their favorite fruit. Or could try a ice cream cone castle, just stack the cones up in a tower and have an adult serve them ice cream and then let the kiddies go wild decorating their cones with what ever you have available.

My son is going to be 2 and he loves just the frosting. Which is too much sweets. This year I am buying a ice cream cake for his theme. Which every kid loves ice cream. So I would suggest maybe ice cream. Also I am making cup cakes but they are going to be in an ice cream cone. You can find the recipe online. So maybe that can be a good idea for you too. If not that they try angel food cake and put strawberries and whip cream on it. Good luck.

I always try to have a unique cake for my daughters' birthdays. For example, when she had the ladybug theme, we made a regular cake using round pans, then added the mini oreo cookies on one cake for dots, with m&m eyes and shoelace licorace for the antennae. For the picnic theme, we made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich looking cake, just by tinting white icing with food coloring or leaving the sides of the cake un-iced (we even made a smaller cake with a loaf pan decorated like a glass of milk!) This year, the five year old wanted a Diego themed party, we just used one of those decorative metal cupcake holders and decorated choclate and vanilla cupcakes with "Diego head" decorations we bought at our local crafts store. That was the best, the parents were able to limit the amount of sweets, and there was little waste.

Search online for sugar free or healthy cakes. Instead of using frosting and sprinkles use yogurt or cottage cheese and fruit.
If you do not want a cake, get creative and make little healthy portions for the kids.
Here's an example, It's called Bunny Salad.
Peel a pear and slice it vertically in half.
Put one half of the pear on a plate with the sliced side down.
use raisins for eyes. A craisin for the nose. Sliced almonds for the ears and cottage cheese for the tail.
make one for each of the kids. It's healthy and I'm sure the kids will love it.
Get creative. Use food to make cute platters for the kids.
I do this all the time. Feel free to message me for more suggestions.

How about a fresh fruit bar? Or fruit and yogurt smoothies maybe? There are a ton of sweet healthy food ideas, and most are perfectly loved by the average two year old! hehe. I heard of a baked apple idea that sounded good... core an apple (leave the bottom on) and pour in orange juice and a touch of cinnamon and brown sugar, cover with foil and bake until soft. For the two year old group, I'd scoop it out of the peel for them, maybe top with crushed graham crackers... Have fun! :)

Angel food cake isn't as sweet as other cakes, so you can either give people slices or mini cakes and they can "decorate" them with fresh fruit and whipped cream or ice cream. You can also do the same with phyllo dough or pastry dough. Bake them into little squares and make personal Napoleons (layered desserts).

You can make or buy fruit kabobs and arrange them in foam shapes from craft stores (trees, circles, wreaths). Have dip available: chocolate, yogurt, whipped cream, marshmallow.

My daughter's 2nd birthday was a ladybug theme... I made cupcakes, used food coloring spray to make the thin layer of frosting red, and uses rasins for spots.

Just make sure no one has that red dye 40 allergy!!

Get short cakes and cool whip and strawberrys, or apples and penutbutter, or ice cream and fruit. Jello pie works great too your favorite jello gelitin and cool whip in a pie crust

1) Make a homemade jello-type mold with lots of fruits in it.
2) Have vanilla yogurt instead of ice cream, with lots of choices to personalize it: raisins, granolas, M&M's, carob chips, etc.
3) Make individual pancakes with their initials on them & several choices of natural fruit syrups.
Other ideas in the book below.
