Yes, i spoke in what most people call tongues back in the seventies. In the AOG and UPC church.

The UPC did not recognize my experience in the AOG because they think they AOG are going to hell even though they practice the same things.

It is a real phenomena but not from God, it comes from inside one's own psyche. It is brought on by an intense desire to do so. It is brought on by guitars and drums blaring highly charged emotional services and people going wild in the aisles.

Bible tongues is languages that can be understood by those who speak that language. See Acts chapter 2

The ecstatic utterances that people claim as tongues today dates way back to pagan Goddess worship. It is just yet another pagan practice that some Christians try to take over as their own.

Well I suppose the answer would depend entirely on your definition of "tounges." for example I speak in a tounge known as english, where as some of my friends can speak the tounges of english and spanish. In that case tounges is a very real thing, and definately backed up by many records, testimonies, and various other sources of information. As for the more miraculous version of "tounges" however, what some may know as "angle speak," it's not really all that accurate in it's execution usually and points to it's being made up by the person doing it.

Let me expalin what I mean. In the bible, the only recorded use of the "gift" of tounges, actually better translated "tounges of fire" was on the day of pentecost when Peter went out and preached and some 3,000 people came to Christ in a day. As Tounges is recorded there the apostles (or disciples of Jesus) were speaking to the people (all of whom came from different regions and spoke different languages and dialects), yet everyone in the crowd was hearing two people preaching to them in their native languages and dialects. A most difficult feat to be sure. An example of something like this in the modern world would be a Russian, an American, and a man from China all listening to a person from Africa speaking. None of the people know any languages but their own, but for some reason the Russian, American, and the man from China can all understand exactly what the man from Africa is saying, as though he were saying it in their language. It seems like a most useful gift to have, but alas it seems it's gone the way of the other miraculous feats performed by the apostles as I know of no modern records of such happenings.

Obviously this "angle speak" which sounds to those around as nothing more coherent than random giberish at best, doesn't really fit the description of the gift of tounges from the bible, and therefore is only logically the fabrication of someone's mind rather than a genuine modern day miracle.

Friend, why would you insult yourself with such a major question in a religion area with christians all around? First you do not have the understanding of it and obviously don't read the Bible. Yes I have and it is real. Speaking in tongues is being filled with the Holy Ghost and is the evidence of that. It is in the Bible, go read the book of Acts. It is okay that you think it fake, you just need to hunt for the truth, how? Surrender your heart to Jesus and allow Him to change your life, ask for all He is willing to give and you will come back here saying you believe and speak in tongues also. Be blessed.

Here is my opinion on that...I think people CAN speak in tongues when it is necessary. During the days of Pentecost there were people representing all different languages, and when the Holy Spirit came down, people began to speak each other's languages as a way to unify the crowd and so EVERYONE could understand what was being said and rejoice in the Lord. I don't believe in the jibber jabber that's not a real language.

I truly believe it's one of God's tools to be used when necessary, not at every random Sunday service.

I have, and I know that it is fake. Usually sincere and not intentionally deceitful, simply a misunderstood expression of pent up emotion.

People usually only get "baptized in the Holy Ghost" and begin speaking in tongues (for the first time, at least) in a church meeting, while in an emotional frenzy, surrounded by a group of people who are earnestly praying for them to "get baptized" with the evidence of speaking in tongues. Eventually they break down and sure enough, speak in tongues just like all their peers expect them to. It's not that they do it just to be popular, though. They really believe that the Holy Spirit has possessed them and is speaking through them. How could they be so happy about it otherwise? But in reality it is the power of peer pressure and group psychology that possesses them. Just as people who are expected to "be set free from demon possession," or who "interpret tongues," or "receive healing," often play the part expected of them, not realizing they are playing a part.

In the Bible, the disciples on the day of Pentecost spoke "in the tongues of men and of angels..." People have "heard of" people who have spoken actual foreign languages that they haven't learned, like they have "heard of" someone who blew up after eating pop-rocks & Pepsi, but there is no documented evidence of that happening.

Conveniently, people who speak in tongues always speak in "the tongues of angels" which, of course, can't be understood and cannot be disproven. Who's to say that the random syllables they utter are not the language the Angels speak in Heaven? Nobody has ever heard angels speak.

Why and how do angels speak anyway? As spiritual entities they wouldn't have physical vocal chords, and there is presumably no air in Heaven to carry the sound of their voices. And do they have different Angel languages? If you listen to people from different churches, different cultures, and different geographical areas, there is an obvious audible difference between the "languages" they speak... different syllables, different intonations, etc. Why would angels have multiple languages, since they're all citizens of the universal Kingdom of Heaven?

I would challenge anyone who believes in speaking in tongues to produce incontrovertible documented evidence of anyone speaking in a human language they don't understand.

I've spoken in Spanish. A little.

I've been trying to learn French. Not very good at that.

Mostly I speak English, but also some creole and Japanese.

If you study the teachings on tongues in 1 Corinthians, do a tiny bit of study of the greek; you will find that there are two words used there.
1 = Languages
2 = Gibberish (honestly, that's what it means).

I don't do much gibberish in public. At least not on purpose.

Dreamstuff, you were primed and ****** there!

Look: don't forget that Paul uses both words Glossa and Glossalalia there in 1 Corinthians. Paul claimed to speak in Glossa (languages), supernaturally.

What the Corinthians were doing was a mixture of Glossa (languages) and Glossalalia (gibberish). that's the point Paul was making in the 3 chapters on the subject 12-13-14 of 1 Corinthians.

I did. I didn't practice it, I don't know how to do it in the first place. I was honestly a bit afraid about it. It came and I felt blessed.
I think those who called it fake are the ones who haven't really experienced it. It's not fake, it happened in the new testament. I don't think there's a scripture that says it can'T happen to believers now. http://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=1COR%2014;&version=9;

Some people do fake it that I know....like I've seen people who say the same thing over and over everytime they 'get the spirit' and you can sorta tell its fake, like you can feel theyre just pretending. But I have seen people speak in tongue and recieve the Holy Ghost and you can definately feel or 'sense' that theyre not making it up...

Yes, I would not trade this gift for any of my personal possessions it is very valuable to me.

Read Acts chapter 2, and 1 Corinthians 12 and 14 for starters, it is biblical and Paul tells about it.

This is from Acts 19:

1While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2and asked them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when[a] you believed?"
They answered, "No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit."

3So Paul asked, "Then what baptism did you receive?"
"John's baptism," they replied.

4Paul said, "John's baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus." 5On hearing this, they were baptized into[b] the name of the Lord Jesus. 6When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues[c] and prophesied. 7There were about twelve men in all.

Notice that there was no one in this instance that needed a foreign language spoken or a translator-it was just a natural outgrowth of the Baptizm in the Holy Spirit.

Not exactly ... but on a bus one day, this man started to get off the bus at the 'totally wrong stop' and I told him in German not to get off, but to stay on the bus and I'd show him where to get off. He listened to me, and told me in German 'Thank you very much ... I don't speak good English, and your German is impeccable.' The funny thing about that was that I had taken German in high school, and hadn't spoken it since ... and there was NOTHING to tell me that man was German ... it just 'felt right' ... as to whether that is 'speaking in tongues' or not, I don't know ... all I know is that God sure helped me to remember a language I had 'totally forgotten' ... and to this day, I can speak German, French, or Chinese ... but ONLY when I am 'saving somebody a lot of grief' by doing so.
