when i sneeze my heart stops??? amazing theory i really love it, so the bless you is a way of resurrecting me...wow! i must be grateful.

Actually, the practice started not because your heart stops, it started because they believed that you were expelling an evil spirit/demon when you sneezed. (Sort of a self-exorcism.)

It actually is an old custom, due the fact that your heart skips a beat when you sneeze & people didn't want someone to die without being blessed. --- That's what I've always heard...
I decided to research your question & have found that there's also a possibility that a pope popularized it during the Black Plague.

I heard that long ago there was a superstition that when you sneeze your soul leaves the body due to the force of the blow. The phrase "God bless you" sent your sould back into your body where it belongs.
I believe this is now just a culture thing. In Portuguese speaking countries they say "saude" (health) so no religious implication there.

Doesn't everyone say "bless you" when you sneeze (not just Christians)? The phrase has simply become a universal polite response, although it started out differently.

what i learned from my parents is that when u sneeze ur hart stops beating then they say bless u because u came a live again

It actually stems from a belief that when you sneeze you are expelling the "breath of life" that GOD gave you. Hence the expression

lol that's funny but, a while ago, like 300 years ago, when you sneezed it usually ment you had a cold, and since when you had a cold back then, you would usually die, they would say bless you.
