As tourists traveling by bus to canada,what could be some of the requirements aside from my family passports?

Passports will get you across the border - and back again ;);)

Other than that, I would bring the usual things you bring whenever you travel - health insurance, traveller's checks, etc.

if you a US citizen you will have no problem with a passport and a picture id(drivers license) and know where you are going and coming from, its getting back in that will be the hardest part, need the same info but your papers will be checked more carefully
