My friend has just become a nanny. The parents live in a gated community, kinda of out of the way!!! They only have one child a little girl who just turned 2. They informed her that she cannot watch any TV and that it has to be all activity all day except for nap time. They won't let her take her out anywhere and if they go outside it can only be for a few minutes. What should she do and are there any ideas that she can use to keep the child entertained???

Simple crafts & games. They have great workbooks at stores like WalMart or Target geared towards 2 yo's. I'm a big fan of Family Fun magazine, lots of craft ideas in there.

Trips to the library for story time (if they let them out).

Games - Ring around the rosies, etc.

If your friend just looks up nanny books or activities for toddlers or preschoolers she should find a lot. She could even create a binder of the things she finds & mark what the child responds to & doesn't.

Take a large cardboard box and let her draw pictures on it with you... then it can be her "house for the day" You can bring dolls to the "house" or have a tea party in the "house" you could have a picnic in the "house"

Draw pictures and send them to far away people (armed forces maybe)

Practice spelling her name... never too early to start!

Make puppets out of old socks and put on a show. (another good idea for a large box.... just cut a hole in it for the "stage")

Sing silly songs and dance silly too!

Read LOTS of books! Or the same one several times... let her make the funny sounds in the book...

Is it possible to go to a park? It's so important that she gets fresh air and interaction with other children. Puppet shows are good, you could also employ educational games. Get some construction paper and cut different colors and shapes and teach her the shapes and colors.
