remove glove box and relay is mounted at left side of opening
relay control wires come from under the carpet to gear lever and to 4th gear switch [manual trans] then run up the hollow shaft [broken wires here are common] also broken wires and terminals at the solinoids have become common power is supplied to the system from fuse # 11 various relay's have been used over the years w/ several supercessions so volvo should be consulted for proper relay usage note the clamp grip relay holder has been found to be excessivly tight resulting in shape distortion of the relay and simply removing from mount may make things work again . the purchase of a bentley 240 service manual would be a good idea ,haynes manual is pretty good too. goodluck

As stated previosly it behind the glove box to the left, this ussually is the problem with the overdrive. Other problem may be a faulty solenoid on the transmission. If solenoid clicks when button is pressed then try removing the sloenoid and blowing some air into the small holes, they may be plugged. other then that its pretty much transmission time.

The overdrive wiring is behind the dash. Remove the glove box and it is the relay just inside on the left. One wire is power, one wire is out-put to OD unit. Two wires go to the OD switch. One turns OD lamp on. If you remove the passenger left side kick panel you will find the 3 wires you need to check system next to radio, going under the carpet. One is hot going to switch, one will power up when you press switch, the last will be powered up when OD is on. Usual problem if switch is working is the relay, Broken wire at base of shifter for switch is next.
