Short answer: yes.
Long, long answer to this one that requires reading the sources below.

First, the prophecy I believe you're referring to, from 1843:
"The government will be utterly overthrown and wasted"

And the answer:

The links are a long read, so I'll summarize:
Once the saints were safely moved out west, the nation split in 2, civil war, President shot dead, vice president impeached, 3rd in line stabbed, the ruling government (Whig) unseated, and massive turnover in Congress. And the nation did enter into receivership for a brief time.

Failed prophecy? Not by my standards.

Uh... actually, the United States went into receivership shortly after the Civil War. The nation we call the US today is NOT the same nation that was founded in 1776. We are actually owned by the Illuminati and the world bankers.

Not a Mormon, but historically aware.

Well, if it doesn't happen shortly before the Second Coming of Christ, it will be seriously revamped afterwards. A few years to God could be 500, so what's 140, more or less. After seeing what lawyers and judges are like in general across the country, in some ways it has already been overthrown, but in secret.

Maybe he meant the Confederate States of America. After all, they shared his hatred of Africans, Catholics, and Native Americans.

I think that he meant that he was a false prophet.

Deuteronomy 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.
