Everyone is right. A capella. No instruments.

Lots of different forms of this. In some churches, there are no instruments allowed. So you have groups singing all alone. Before that, in the early church, there was Gregorian chant.

Small groups like barber shop quartets are known for vocals only. Some jazz groups like Bobby McFerrin's Voicestra are a capella. And then there is the pop stuff, like the Nylons and Rockapella.

Most gutsy is an a capella solo, such as Suzanne Vega doing Tom's Diner, which was remade with the I Dream of Jeannie sample in it. But the original was alllll vocals and only melody. Bobby McFerrin also does a LOT of a capella stuff, using his voice to make instrument sounds.

A capella. If you want to check some of it out, look at Rockapella (famous group from the 90's, they're the ones that did "Where in the World is Carmen Sandiego", if you're old enough to remember it).

Many others out there. Lots of college groups that do some wonderful stuff, it's amazing what they can do with their voices.

That's called acapella when only a solo singer's voice or an instrument is heard.
