Genesis1:16 "And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also."

The greater light=the sun
The lesser light=the moon

"God CREATED TWO great LIGHTS"

This verse clearly indicates that God created the moon with its own light! This cleary indicates that people in the past believed that the moon shines on its own, and to no surprise the author also thought so when he made the story up! How could christians still believe in such a fairy tale despite this glaring error??!!

Those of you who think the bible is unreliable should do some research on the subject. If you look, you will find that the bible is actually the most reliable historical document, as proven by the dead sea scrolls, among other things. People believe what they read in history books, but yet the bible is more historically accurate and they do not believe that.

I suggest you read "Examining the Evidence" or "The Case for Christ," both of which go into detail explaining why science actually supports, not contradicts, the bible.

Hey man ... you don't really think you're shattering anyone's world here, do you? The moon does give off light - reflected light. Does the bible say the moon creates it's own light? No. Does the moon cast light on the earth at night? Yup.

Sorry to burst any bubbles, but Christians aren't as dumb as you might hope.

If the writers of the bible had really been divinely inspired couldn't god have given some scientific knowledge?
And it does indicate that they thought the moon was a source of light not reflecting light. So that argument doesn't cut it. They just didn't know what it was did they?

It doesn't say that the moon shines on its own. Just because something can be explained through science doesn't mean God didn't create it. As a matter of fact, God created science, too.

Actually, the Hebrew word, ma'owr which is translated "light" means "luminary" or "lampstand." It is not the same word used in Gen 1:3 "...let there be "light," which is the Hebrew word 'owr which most often refers to the source of light.

Also, in Job 31:26 (KJV)
If I beheld the sun when it shined, or the moon walking in brightness;

'owr is translated sun, while moon is the word yaw-rah'-akh which has its root in the Hebrew word for "month."

Let's see, most people who wrote back then may not have understood the universe, as we do know. Even scientists in the early 10-14th centuries thought the sun revolved around the moon.

And, the cow jumped over the moon.

The scripture does not say that the moon had light in itself.

Yep, two kinds of light:

The kind that is directly from the sun.
The kind that is reflected.

Are you having trouble understanding the obvious? It doesn't say that the moon is creating fusion.

Christians use faith in what they believe in.
I don't know why they still read the Bible if it is
unreliable. If the Bible is unreliable then their faith
must be unreliable i suppose.
