I believe what they consider harm and what we consider harm are two different things.
In the Koran, it is written that a husband can beat a wife if she does something wrong. The 'lightly' part was added later to appease western society. When it was orginally written it said beat - there was no terms on how to do this.
They also have a lower view of women - believing them to be tempters and lure men into sin. While I believe in modesty itself, women in full veils is hiding G-d's creation. It is also taking something away from the woman - allowing her to understand that she is less valuable and not to be trusted.
Because of what is out lined in the Koran women can be beaten and are less educated then men. They are not sent to school and many cannot even read. While many claim that this is not 'true' Islam, it is in the Koran. And the countries that practice Islam to its fullest have all of these qualities. Only in America can a woman leave the house without a veil or male escort. Only here can she learn to read and to learn a vocation. Only here does she have the right never to be beaten or quartined to the house.
In Muslim countries none of these rights exsist.

As with any RELIGION, Islam attempts to protect it's people by strict rules. Without a doubt, if there was a strict rule in the USA that no woman could be alone with a man other than her husband, we would all but eliminate premarital and extra-marital sex. That wouldn't really be a bad thing. The manner by which various religions attempt this sometimes seems quite abusive of women.
The real point though is that where Islam hurts women the most, it also hurts men and children - Islam leads people AWAY from Christ and to hell.

I have a friend who was raised Muslim. He protected his mother and sister from an abusive father. He would not harm a hair on any woman's head, nor would he allow anything to happen to anyone he loved. Maybe he is a rarity, maybe not. But I value what he tells me, and its verified in his actions, as truth. What you see on the newsreels, yes, is horrible and needs to be stopped. But it is not the view or belief of every Muslim on this earth. Just the ones (and there are a LOT of them) who have taken things to extremes.

You have to be a little bit more specific. What I do know is that much of what many Muslims practice in regards to women is cultural, not religion based... particularly if they live in the Middle East.

I honestly don't know but based on what I know, I would not like to be a Muslim woman, and I thank God I'm not.
God bless you

True or not, all muslims allow harming or beating of women and innocent children. Its in their religion and muslims follow their religion, no matter they are terrorists, Immams, or ordinary muslims...
