We used Tidy Cat for quite some time, and it never clumped and it never covered the smell. It seems like other cat owners dislike it as well. Am I alone here?

I do get the blue formula. It doesn't work well at all!

Oh and you are really supposed to have one litter box per cat.

I used to swear by tidy cats. I liked the clumping, but it eventually seemed like it stopped covering the odor as well as it did when I first got my cat (my only cat), and my litter maintenance routine is meticulous and always has been.

Another problem I've had with (many) clumping litters is that my cat tends to track a lot (she comes flying out of the box instead of stepping out) and the granules are really hard to sweep up and vacuum. If they get wet (our litterbox is in the bathroom) they become one with the floor (as well as my cat's paws).

I just switched to the silica crystal type litter (Fresh Step brand is the only crystals I can find in my town) and I'm very pleased so far. Sure it still tracks when my cat exits the box, but the crystals don't get soggy and sticky on contact with water (yet they absorb so well in the box!) Unpleasant odors are minimal as well (just make sure to maintain the box according to the instructions). I would imagine that any silica crystal litter would work the same, regardless of brand. A lot of people will say that the crystals are more expensive than clumping litters, but the Fresh Step crystals are $8.99 for a 4-lb bag (enough for one cat, one month) and a 20-lb jug of tidy cats (which is what I used each month) ranges from about $8-10 if memory serves. The light weight of the crystals is another big bonus for me. Who enjoys hauling 20-30-lb jugs and boxes around?

This was really long, and I'm sure I wrote more than you really wanted to know, but I hope I shed some light for you :D

I tried Tidy Cat for Multiple Cats once. It never clumped and it stunk. I actually have tried a number of clumping litters and I have only found 1 I like. Problem is, I'm out of town so I can't go run and look at the container to see what it is! It comes in a big white tub thing and it's about $10.
I've also found that if you sprinkle a little baking soda in the litter it helps to absorb the odor.
Another good litter I have found (not a clumping litter) is all natural made from wood or something. It comes in little pellet looking things. The pellets kind of break down and absorb the stuff in the box and it lasts a while before you have to change it out.

Try Tidy Cat Crumble Free Cat Litter for Multiple Cats and it will work. I have been using it for a long time and it works for my cat. It has a blue and yellow paper around the container.

I have. & my cat has- too. :) And we BOTH AGREE, Tidy Cat is good for nothing but covering those oil spills out in the driveway. My cat now uses the Generic Brand of Kitty Litter they sell down at the Hardware (& likes IT- much better). While I have since learned to use the Bathroom... :)

Yes I tried Tidy Cat litter, and didn't like it, I prefer fresh step or scoop away, they work the best. and you should have at least 2 litter boxes if you have multiple cats, other wise they get full really fast and you have to clean them more.

All clumping kitty litter can get trapped in the cats paws when damp feet walk around the pan. The clumps form between their toes and pad, which the cat then attempts to clean out by licking or chewing. Then we have clumping kitty litter in their intestines. Nice. Who was clumping litter made for? Humans who want cats but not the scent, it certainly wasn't made for the cats who have little choice but to use it.

I dont agree with you. I buy it because it is cheap and it works. Maybe if you arent buying the right formula for your type of need, it isn't working for you. get the blue bag for odor control. it works great.
