My dad has a radio in his garage and some old 6x9's. He ask me if I had an old 12volt power source for it or something. I do, I just don't know if the current being pulled by the stereo will kill the power supply.

Anyone have any experience? I have two years electronics experience I just don't see and power rattings on the unit. What amperage are we walking about?

Should work nicely stable 400 Watts at 120 volts= 12v approx 33 watts or 3 amps of electromotive force. remember Voltage over resistance =. Even better if you place a nickle metal Hydrate battery behind the transformer to cope with the high power bass notes. Most Car systems draw 3 or 4 amps and make plenty of distortion. When you can buy a 5 speaker Kenwood amp with am fm and aux inputs that puts out over 500 watts. For about $85 dollars then buy a $100 buck 120 watt sub woofer and rock the house down for cheaper than 6x9's and junk car radio. Even satellite speakers four or five of them are not to badly priced. Surprise him with quality sound.

Don't know if a computer power supply provides a 12v source. Use your multi meter to find this out. From the sound of it you have just a radio and speakers, no external amp right?
If you find that it provides a 12v output try it out.
