I do know the regiment/battalion & company name of this Marine, if that helps, but am unsure of how the name is spelled...which is why a names listing is important? Thank you :)

Okay. That makes perfectly clear sense regarding all of the answers so far. & thank you very much. I was hoping there was some way I could support him on deployment via letters, etc...I do also know the base. It is only the last name I am unsure of. I really hope it is not a lost cause :( Suggestions??

No, there is not. This is to protect their safety and the safety of their families.

Have you checked for him on Myspace/Facebook etc.
Try and get ahold of his family, or a close friend, it will be your best bet for finding him.
Since you do have the regiment/battalion and company name, search for it on the internet, it will tell you where he is based out of, call that base. If you can at least somewhat spell his name right, they might be able to get you as far as a commander/Orderly Room (or whatever it is for Marines) and they MIGHT be able to tell you if the unit is still in the states. But it is a matter of national security, so your best bet is to find him on your own and not try and go through the military.

Call 1-800-WeKickAss. Kidding.

That type of information is restricted. As someone else mentioned here it is to protect the Marine and his or her family. Read the Privact Act of 1974.

Best bet is to call a Marine base and give the units. They can tell you the actual bas to call. Then you can call that base and drill down tothe guy's unit. However, I do not think they will tell you if he's deployed, but they will say if he is at work. If he's not at work, then assume he's deployed.

Not unless you are in the personnel department for that branch of the military or in that person's chain of command. That protects the privacy of the person as well as the security of the nation.

There definitely should not be such a thing; it would not only endanger the lives of the Marines, but the security of our Nation.

No the names of troops and things like that are kept under wraps. Troop movement is something that should never be talked about for the safety of them and us here back at home.

Call the base operator and have them direct you. I've done it before.
