"Not to be absolutely certain is, I think, one of the essential things in rationality."
-Bertrand Russell
Being a skeptic is good, and evidence is what's important, without them I would be gullible enough to worship ALL gods by now.
The most significant problem with trying to justify any belief, philosophy, or religion on faith may be the fact that there is no good reason for only allowing a single religious group to use it. If Christianity offer it as a defense of a religious tradition, why can't Muslims use it to defend an entirely different and incompatible religious tradition? Why can't a Deist use it to defend an incompatible, secular philosophy?
I'm not talking about the hope/positive thinking or emotion base type of faith, but rather the more dangerous one, the irrational fideistic wishful thinking that is associated with religion.

I am an atheist, but I will not tell you what to believe. In general, believe whatever common sense and rationality tells you to. Don't let others think for you.
I would strongly recommend reading "The God Delusion" by Richard Dawkins. It is a great book, and is a simple dissection of religion. You don't have to buy it; just try to read it.

I am not an Atheist but I dont believe in organized religion either. In most aspects, a majority of religions believe in 1 god no matter what they may call it. So have an outlook on life and take a look outside the box. There youll find your answer.

I think your considering atheism for the "coolness" of it. I shall and would, if I were you, try every reason to see and learn all of the religions. Not just bibical, but also...many other things (which I cannot name them all from the top of my head except Buddhism) You should believe in what YOU want to believe. YOu can even call it your own category. It doesn't have to be what already exsists such as atheism, agnosticism, christianism, etc.. really, many of these religions are about death..what will and may happen in the end and what to us? All are theories and non are right or wrong. All believe in one thing, After death, your sould is separated from your body. Scientists don't neccesarily believe in that except..science and they don't even have the answrs but more questions. Even thier theory of the birth of life. Of course, you already know that.
I consider myself open-minded. I am open and willing to learn everything and what all beliefs. And, for mysefl, I can either accept that or not.

If you don't know why you want to become an atheist, then I can't help you. Just think for yourself and prove the things you believe. You are a free agent.

Being an atheist is the realization that you have been brain washed since childhood. If you've come to this point, there is nothing you have to do. All there is, is to believe firmly that there is no god and live a happy life for there is nothing once you kick the bucket.

I'd choose the whatever over atheism! Remember this life is just a sand grain of time compared to all the sands on all the world's beaches in comparison. To refuse God in this speck of lifetime we have and then end up in the eternal lake of fire forever, hmmmmm - it doesn't compute!! But, whatever!

You can't just become an atheist. Your religion or non-religion is based on what you believe.
