To put it simply, God is like Santa Claus. Just like many children are lied to and promised presents for Christmas as a reward for good behavior, Christians are promised heaven instead.

I'm a christian, and I can understand why you would ask this question. You say it is a religion full of judgements and contradictions. From the sidelines it does seem like that.the thing is when you learn more about it, you start to understand some things that seemed weird before. it is like watching a sport game that you are unfamiliar with. Here's a summary of basic christian beliefs: Christians believe that God sent his son Jesus who loved people so much he died for their sins and rose again. Christians want to follow Christ's example in loving people. Without Christ there is no hope, because God is holy and he loves everybody very much, but he can't accept them into his holy presence when they are guilty of sin.
the other thing is, you can put christians into two categories, and i'm saying this to answer your question, not to judge anyone.
There are christians who think they are doing the right thing by putting up tons of rules and judgements as their priority, instead of things that really matter such as helping people etc.
They think they are serving god that way.
Then there are christians for whom serving God and others is the priority. They do it out of love. And this is part of what attracts (and has attracted for 2000 of years) other people to christianity:God's love shown through Christ's death and the love of other people.
I hope I helped you a little.

Well my dear, perhaps it isn't as strange as you think. Look at all the atheists running around who are angry, bigoted and prejudiced - not to mention hostile and judgemental. A lot of their theories are a load of crock too, but most of us theists are kinder then to put it so bluntly.
I am not Christian, and I do not believe that Christianity has the truth in it in any way. I believe that Christians are honest people who are mislead by a promise of a better life if they forsake this one.
Christians are not bigots or judgemental. They are not called to be. Granted, there are some like that who call themselves Christians. But that doesn't mean they are.

Because children always believe their parents, even if their parents tell them to believe in garbage such as religion. And it is possible to live with being a Christian; people prefer believing to going back on beliefs they have held since birth.
Good question!

Here are three books you might want to check out if you are seriously investigating the claims of Christ:
Mere Christianity by C.S. Lewis
The Case for Christ by Lee Strobel
Orthodoxy by GK Chesterton
Can you be more specific in what contradictions you are referring to? I would be glad to give you specific answers to a specific questions.
People "subject" themselves to following Jesus because they believe that Jesus was who he said he was. He claimed to be God's son and he claimed that he would give eternal life to anyone who believes in him. Orthodox Christians agree on these points as well as many others.
Why is Christianity so popular? Well, maybe you might want to consider that many people have looked at what it means to be a follower of Jesus and have concluded that it makes sense and they want the salvation that he offers.
Hope this helps.

Christianity dosen't have contradictions, it also teach us not to judge people.
English is not my native question, so I'm going to see here on the Internet what "bigot" means
Paz de Cristo
===============================================
oh, ok, bigots are a problem. Still they shouldn't be. Christians should love and respect everybody.

Christianity is "popular" because it is based on the Truth. Any contradictions, judgments, and bigots are present in much more that Christianity. Contradictions are man made and it has been proven over and over again that the Bible does not contradict itself. People and their "interpretation" are what causes the problem. It is so simple, turn your life over to Christ and you will be able to understand what it is all about. He loved you and died for you, it makes Him real popular in my life. Read the Bible for yourself and ask Him to help you understand it, it makes a lot of difference.

Religion has nothing to do with logic; its about an emotional attachment. Its makes them feel good by promising a magical land where they will be happy forever. But, although it has its flaws I guess that Christianity isnt that bad.

Crissy: the power of God is in his word.
I'm not bigoted, judgmental or confused by any contradictions.
Where do you get this idea? The word of God has saved me, changed me and given me a joy filled happy life. I have a savior who loves me, his spirit communes with me, I meet regularly with a community of happy - life giving people who edify me.
What exactly are you talking about?
