you hit the nail right on the head...it's all BS..If indeed Jesus wanted us to donate 10% then he would have (in Gods' design) had us do so...We are destined to God's will as described in the Bible. We are created in His image and live at His Will....
Think about it...if PreDestiny is occurring..we have NO FREE WILL either...hmmm

Did you know there are actually churches where they check your income and if you don't give 10% or more they kick you out??
What a crock..
You learn a lot about religion and everything else in a small town, which is exactly where I've lived my whole life..
I'm a Christian, don't get me wrong..but I don't go to church..
Christians judge people more than anybody else does..around here, most of the preachers have been caught in some kinda scandal where they're takin the churches money and going on vacation with it-but I guess the vacation's all for Jesus, right?
Some people have such a messed up way of how things should be...

The reason God ask for 10% is to see if we will give back to Him when He gives to us. When we tithe the money also goes to missions, and that helps the missionaries bring people to the Lord. Two years ago we sent Christmas Stockings filled with toys, pencils, paper, candy, cars, hair ribbons, and other things. We sent 79 stockings, they split it up between 129 children, 114 of those children gave their lives to the Lord. The money is important to help others. That is what is also for. Many people go to church when they are down and out. We can help them that way also. The money also pays the bills in the church. Don't play GOD. He is not mocked.

God doesn't require money, you dork. Do you have any idea what it costs to run a church building??? I bet the churches would gladly show you where every $ that came in, went. The pastor's, preachers, whatever you want to call them, quit their jobs [ some were extremely successful ] because they felt called to serve their God. They only take a pittance for their pay, just enough that is 'required' to live a modest lifestyle. Don't you agree that they should be paid something for their time and devotion? God requires nothing from us! But He also knew that His preacher's and teacher's required monetary means to preach His gospel. Is a man worthy of his pay????? He works for the congregation and is accountable to the members at all times. In a perfect world where money is no longer 'required', we wouldn't be having this discussion.

I believe it's supposed to be for the upkeep of the church, but when I see the preachers rolling around in 80k cars and living in houses that can house their whole congregation 2 times over, then I wonder who the money is really going too. I havent given tides in my life because I hate to see a preacher getting rich offf of me, and leaving his so called flock in poverty. Whatever.

Don't you love it when people ask questions just so they can snark at the answers? Sheesh. Anyway, obviously He doesn't NEED anyone's money. Giving money to the church is a sign of devotion and selflessness. Yes, He could make money just appear out of thin air, but then what would we learn? Think of all the spoiled rotten heiresses running around who have had everything handed to them on a silver platter. God knows it's better for us if we learn to give.

hmm my church asks for the standard 10% for conference things *I am not sure besides salaries what they do with it*
Then 5% for the local church-lights, supplies, quarterlies, etc.
Then 2% for our school-I don't pay that b/c I pay tuition for my son.
Plus other love offerings (right now I am begging for $ for VBS.)
The money is to be used to spread the Word and pay pastors and educate the people. But on earth people are corrupt and misuse the money.

Your cynicism speaks volumes. But,...you should try to comprehend that giving money is a form of sharing. By sharing you are admitting that you are interdependent on your fellow man.
Jesus taught the world that we must treat our brothers as our selves and share what we have with those who have less than us.
Jesus doesn't want your money. He wants you to share with your fellow man because it makes the world a better place. More the way God wants it to be. Hording makes you hard and separates you from God.
Peace

You are not God. If you had read the bible , you would know why your pay one tenth and why you make offerings.
Churches ask for money to pay for expenses that are incurred for continued operation.
TBN a christian broadcast station asks for the same for the same reason.
If you were really God, which you are not, or even if your had a slight sense of Christianity, you would already know the answer.
I can only conclude that you are probably a fool and no girlfriend, so you have nothing better to do..

Just as you have listed so many valuables in the world that God created, you assume God doesn't need our money and you are RIGHT! He does NOT want or need your money. He wants your trust in Him. Money is one of the hardest things for us humans to give up and God who created us knows this. He wants our trust in Him, that He will provide us with our needs IF we trust Him and give up money to provide for the churches to spread His Word. People who trust enough to tithe, lean on The Lord and are blessed.

While I do believe in giving money to help the poor and upkeep of the church.I dont see the need for money for TV ads for politicians, TV evangelists and new transportation. It would be refreshing to see a preacher who said that he didn't need or want your money.
