I've been wanting my lip pierced for about for about a year, but before I do anything, I want to make sure that I know all the facts, risks, different things that have happened to people so I know exactly what I'm getting myself into. I've done some research, but any more advice and facts that you know of please let me know. And if you have a personal story when you got a piercing, the side effects, negative/positive outcomes. And what about teeth. If I got a simple piercing on my lower lip, what could it do to my teeth?? And what's the pain on a 1-10 scale. I'd like to know anything really. Thanks :)

ok heres the deal. It doesnt really hurt at all, it happens too quick. It will be sore for a week or two after but not intolerable, kinda like when you accidently bite your lip or cheek. there are always chances of it getting infected, shifting teeth etc. but if you go to a good piercer they will position it in the right place so it wont bother it. it will feel weird on your gum or teeth until you sort of build up a resistance to it. as long as you clean it daily, dont touch or mess with it, it should be fine. its gonna have "crusties" for awhile. dont freak out. its normal. you probably already looked all this up but it never hurts to make sure. if your lip gets swollen(it will be swollen the first week or two though), red, and is leaking some nasty green stuff..go to your piercer and ask what you should do. DO NOT take it out. it will close on both ends locking the infection in your lip creating an absess and you will have to have it surgically removed and have a huge scar. you need to get it healthy again before you take it out. if yo u have any questions at all. call your piercer. i cant stress this enough. they will KNOW what to do. they train for this job and they know what to expect and what to do in all different situations. doctors are mostly biased on piercings because they only see the bad. they may tell you to do something which can make it worse because they werent trained in piercings. people are natural pessimists and so they always have to bring up the bad situations. im not saying it cant happen, but it usually happens to the people who go to some hole in the wall, nasty piercer who will pierce anyone with a wallet full of money. for every person in the er with a piercing gone wrong there are at least a 1000 other people out there with the same piercing who took care of it correctly and had no problems. im about to get venombites and im so excited! i hope you like yours too!

P.s the piercing shop will probably sell good stuff to clean with. satin soap is AMAZING. so are the H2Ocean products.

Ok well, i jsut got my lip pierced about 2 weeks ago.
And let me tell you. I doesn't even hurt at all. Pain from about 3-10. My exact words, "was that it" So yea, dont worry abotu the pain, I got all worked up about it, and it didn't even hurt. Less then a little shot.
Okay, about your teeth, well usually getting it too low, it will scrape against your teeth so get it about at the end of where your bottom lip ends, and it won't scrape against your teeth rarely at all.
Now to the side effects, personally, alot of people make it sound horrible, but its really not, if you clean it like your supossed to, it will be good. Take two neproxciam sodium, or alieve, after you get up, and before you goto bed, and you'll be good. I prefer using contact cleaner, or saline, you'll be abel to find it at wal-mart and other drugstores.
Sometimes yellowish stuff will come out of it, it doesn't mean its infected. Every opened wound leaks. You'll know when its infected which will be when its really puffy/yellowishgreen/and it hurts.
And also, sometimes your lip will be so big you won't be able to barely see the lip ring, thats what the aleives for.

Good luck!

well i haven't had my lip pierced even though i've wanted it soo bad, but friends say it doesn't hurt at all. I'd say a cartilage piercing would hurt a whole lot more, and stretching ur ears. about the teeth, some piercers are really good and it won't even hit ur teeth but others might, it just depends on how good they are.

They can shift your teeth, they could reject, they could get infected. They do not hurt well some what they do I give it a 7 on that. Unless doing it for cultural reasons I dont think there is a positive side to that. I know that it is hard to get a job with it on.

OK when i got my lip pierced it swelled up REALLY big. but you can just take ibuprofen and the swelling will go down. mine did not swell up until after i had it for a day. But it did nothing to my teeth. And when i got mine done it didn't really hurt. i mean it felt like getting a shot that's about it.

pain is more like a good pinch, teeth should be fine, consider your workplace before doing it
