I was amazed to find how many have confessed to me, that they never really read this book, that they have built their life arround.

Why is it that people who don't believe much of what they read in the newspaper, will believe in a book that was written 5000 years ago by primitive peple and they haven't even read it?
If you criticize the book; the first thing they say is "have you read it?".
Yet all that they believe is hear-say evidence.

How can they make the most important decisions of their life, based on what the've been told by the same people who instructed them about Santa Clause, The Easter Bunny, And the Tooth Fairy?

Even many of those who have read the book, have never been tested on their comprehension.----Nor did they read other books, written in a similar style and language, so that they could accustom themselves to reading this type of writing.
Furthermore, most of them don't bother themselves w/ the history of the Bible.
The majority don't even know who wrote it, how many authors, or when it was written.

DO IT TWICE----Where did you get the information about it not being meant for a literal translation?

I don't understand how those who haven't read it would go to "Bible Studies" to be told by someone else how to "transilate" the "meaning" of parts of a book that was written for the masses.
Who ever said that their is some mysterious, hidden meaning to so many passages.---The morals that they imply are obvious, but mostly flawd and immature.

How can you accept any person to be an expert on the veracity of a 5000 year old book. You're only left with your common sense to judge it.

I am an atheist yet I have read the entire Bible. You cannot remain a Christian after reading it and noting the many incongruities, inconsistencies, the violence, the advocacy of violence, the murder, killing, rape, torture and bloody practices ordered by their God.

To get a true measurement of education in the subject the Christians would have to read at least three variations of the books called Bibles. I doubt even .01% of Christians have done such a thing. The curiousity is replaced with rote lessons in most Christians.

I would say maybe 60 or 70 % haven't read the bible as a whole. Most probably only read what has already been read to them however there are those who do bible studies in their free time and have read it and I know quite a few of them.

Actually this is a misstatement. Jesus and God is what their life is built around.
They believe Jesus is the living spirit, and their spirituality is an active living thing. it isn't based around a book. If you don't agree than you should ask yourself what percentage of other people actually know Christianity and how many put broad generalizations on every Christian because they had a bad experience 20 years ago.

Why do you have to use the word Christian. Man that is to general. Ask something more like how many have a relationship with Christ have read the entire Bible. A Christian and a person with a relationship are two entirely different sets of people. Peace out..............

I have read it all the way through. Now I am studying it more in depth. I believe maybe 10% have read the entire Bible all the way through. Too many people say it is too hard or boring or they can't understand the thee's and thou's. Or they pick out what they want to believe.

Too many Christians have not read the entire Bible. The answers Christians give here prove that. Let's pray that more Christians get into the Word.

That being said it is a SURE NUMBER several times At least 10% . We are required to read the bible daily.
Now All other folks who regard themselves as Christians need to respond and finish your survey.
I have read it in full 5 times, Others in my religion have read in in full MUCH MORE!

no idea. maybe 5%.
I read it all the way through when I was a Christian. It was boring. Just a lot of slaughtering of those terrible non-Jews that god was mad at for some inexplicable reason.
I think of it now and wish all that was just a story. But it probaby happened, and thousands of people were needlessly butchered in the name of "god commanded it".
sickening
