In Galveston, Texas, you need a $25 permit to play on the street for tips. Check your local city hall. I asked the city manager of another nearby city and he checked with the city attorney. They said, "No problem." I carried the city manager's business card in my wallet and when the local cops tried to give me a hard time, I flashed it and said their boss said it was OK. They backed off and haven't been a problem since. It's worth the time to check locally.

I don't know about where you live, but where i live.I have gone to the beach and set up electric guitar and bass, run off an inverter form my truck.pretty soon we had people encircling me and my bro.we only did this cause we needed to audition this other guy who was bragging about how good he could sing.Anyway once we set up on Santa Monica beach he wussed out and dissappeared.I see people playing guitar on the beaches and broadwalks all the time.If you do have to have a permit in Massachussetts, man I'll never live there, even if I would never want to play guitar in public. There are already to many rules, and people trying to tell you how to live,in whats supposed to be a free country.

Never heard of it but MAN it's a GOOD idea! Then we could have a review board of pros like me with Master's Degrees in Classical guitar and weed out the 5,0000000000000000000000 BAD guitar banging idiots who pollute the air daily with their out of tune doodling around.

Depends on where you live. Call your local city hall or municipal building and find out.

I think it depends on WHERE you're going to play.
Some places, like Venus Beach in CA you DO......others, you don't. Investigate.
