Anything is a weapon, several things right beside most peoples beds can be used. An alarm clock or phone swinging from the end of the cord can hurt. Anything can be used as a crude club, instead of pepper spray or mace think of Axe deodorizing spray or cologne. Everyone at some point and time has had the girl at the cologne counter of some store accidentally spray them in the eye and that hurts. Look at what is immediately around you right now and put them in to three categories blunt force, cutting, stabbing. You might be surprised at what you come up with. Survival means adapting and using what you have immediately available. You could have a gun or mace or tazer but will it always be there when you need it. Hopefully so but you never know what the situation will be

Ahh, good question. Self defense has evolved in recent years. New technology makes self defense easier than ever.

The Sportsman's Guide has a few good self defense products available and they're cheap too! Of course you have your mase that will do the job fairly easy and at a distance. BUT, if there is any kind of wind present, the mist will get into your eyes and nasal passages and if you're sensitive to these kinds of things, you could be in just as much pain as your attacker.

The Sportsman's Guide also has a few batons that fold out to provide about 3 feet of solid steel allow that will crack the skull of any rapist with one hit.

The Guide also has electric stun pens. YES PENS, these products are about 6 1/2 inches long and about 1/2 inch wide. These are my personal favorite, because they can fit inside your girlfriends or your wife's purse un-noticed. The highest voltage they offer is 500,000 VOLTS. This is enough juice to put down a bear. No joke. They are extremely affordable and a very good idea.

I hope this helps. Be safe and God Bless.

stun-guns and tazers are fine id personally just shoot um its the same charge why half step but if Ur looking for something a Lil less deadly it all depends on the purpose tazers are very effective at neutralizing a attacker but u only get one shot its bout useless against 2, regular stun guns are also effective if u get enough volts (you will want over 100,000 to make sure its enough to take down big Tyrone when hes cumming for Ur cornbread) but there small and u got-to get up close and personal a baton, or cattle prod will do the same thing but give u a extra foot of reach. mace id have to argue is the least effective if Ur attacker becomes enraged it might not do anything but piss him off (it will hurt but not incapacitate him) , if u already own a gun there's the option of beanbag/rubber/plastic less then lethal ammunition these are quite effective as a deterrent but a good shot in the head would kill some one so it might be extreme for Ur needs but of all the means available id suggest these or just a good old bat or Axe handle . there are also many weird less lethal weapons (paintball guns that shoot mace balls) but i have no exp. with these so i wont comment on them best of luck

Your brain???

Yeah, it wont stop a bullet (though it will slow one down a bit), but it can make sure you are not in the vicinity of flying rounds.

A roll of pennies, brass knuckles, diamond encrusted garrote, red pepper, scissors, hand darts, throwing knives, edged blade of any kind, tommyknocker, stick, sock with a rock in it, a dowel rod, a large fish hook, chains (hopefully with a lock on the end), aluminum siding, a broken cd, sand, bearings, hardened body parts (repeated use), a belt from your pants (most deadly if trained), broken glass, nails, home made grenade (instructables.com) a cord from a lamp or computer, a baseball, of course the bat (I am attempting to be more creative) a shoe (old faithful), a car or motorcycle, a chair, a bandana or solid hanky, my wifes cooking.....

The list goes on my brutha....There are many more out there.
Basically, anything you can thow, cut, or wrap someone up with can be used as an effective weapon.

We been killing each other long before guns or even knives came around!

Seems everyone has missed a lot of the fun stuff

There are a few nice and nasty options that may suit you if you are not of gun age yet for example, or don't want to worry about same level of licencing for guns etc.

1. Pocket crossbow. check models on the net.

2. Spear guns. The smallest are only a foot or so long. Not much good for diving really, but would certainly upset someone if you shot them in the face with it in open air :)

3. Humane killers, like used to slaughter beasts at meatworks etc. (may be classed as firearms though)

4. Powerheads. Like they kill sharks or big game fish with underwater. Generally don;t need licence (depending what country you are from). About 6" steel tube with gun cartridge screwed into them, Usually mounted on a shaft or spear gun for jabbing into sharks, but they will still go off just hand held if you whack someone hard enough with them in open air.
many calibres .357, .303, 12ga shotgun.

Have fun.not the best choices next to a gun but I won't be crawling into your room at night to rob you once you buy one of the above, that's for sure.

There is no better protection for you and yours than a good handgun and the skill to use it. It is also the easiest defensive weapon to learn how to use.
As said, anything can be used as a weapon, but most of the things mentioned require you to be close to the attacker, or be able to sneak up on him. With a handgun, you have to do neither.
Regardless of what you use, it must be better than the opponent has.

Well, i would just reccomend a gun, if someone breaks in to your gun and say he has a 9mm in his hand, its better to have a 357 magnum revolver in your hands, it is also said that the worst sound a thief can hear is the sound of a shotgun pumping, a baseball bat will do, taser, pepper spray, keys, this one is a funny one but it hurts alot, i call it, lock n' a sock, what you do is you buy a masterlock say, take an old sock and put the master lock in the sock, then tape the end so the lock doesnt move...its alot scarier then what it sounds like...but just buy a gun, its better, and safer...

Look around you, almost anything can become a weapon. If you don't believe me look up prison weapons on the web. tooth brushes, pens and pencils, combs and plastic drinking glasses.

In my state tazers are outlawed with the exception of law enforcement, pepper spray is allowed but the size of the container is restricted.

First question: Sure. Get an attack dog.

Second question: Can civilians buy Tasers? Yes, but they cost more than the average handgun. The Taser reloads are costly, too. Pepper spray can get into your air con and you'll have to vacate the premises until it clears.

So... Learn Kung Fu or learn to safely keep and bear arms like our Constitution permits us to do.

Best.
