solution while we get a handle on those already here illegally?

Because of import and export issues it couldn't be done on a long term basis. In my opinion this would cease illegal immigration to a point we could get a grip on the situation within our country. If we did this we could declare a National Emergency and utilize our National Guard as a protective force which we can't do if they are just policing the border.

Opinions?

Actually Cory it does. And with a national emergency UCMJ rules are over-ruled.UCMJ only applies for Police Action. Not a state of emergency.

As far as getting a grip on those here it would be feasible in regards to those who would qualify for a visa system which could be set into motion and guarantee that new people wouldn't be crossing to receive the visa.

I think that every time we try to do a compromise we end up falling two steps back with the nasty rhetoric from both sides.

a compromise must be reached!

Well, first of all how are you going to "close the border"? Most illegals do not come in through official border crossings.

Second of all, what about the daily trade? Thousands of American companies ship products over the border on a daily basis. Should all those compaies all cease operations, even temporarily? That would violate NAFTA and WTO commitments, as well as put thousands of Americans out of work.

No, it's not feasible.

First, it doesn't fit the statutory requirements for being a national emergency, because the change would not materially affect the current status of the country.

And there's potential issues with national guard or military enforcing federal law....

But more than that -- the monthly influx is not a big percentage of the problem -- and closing the border for even a year wouldn't affect even 1% of the problem. So, not a solution.

In my opinion I say let them come. That's what this country was built on, immigrants. They never had to deal with people saying they couldn't be here because they didn't have the right documents, why now? They come to America because they need a safe haven I guess you could say, a place where they can raise their families and take care of them. So, yeah forget the borders, just let them be, let them come.

The drug business would't go fot it. You can see who's really running the border by the imprisoned Border Agents who stopped a huge shipment.

Wouldnt work at all, and it would just be one more reason for governments of other countries to hate us! (mainly because we stopped their criminals from entering)

No, it is not possible. If you want to stop the illegal immigration, you have to build the wall !!!

I live on the border....The implication would be astronomical for our economy, it would destroy it....Many people cross over everyday to visit family, to work (legally) and to come shop....It just wouldn't work for our city, we are economically tied to each other....

no, we can't get rid of illegal immigrants in a few years or even ten years

why should everyone trying to come here have to stop?
