An unproved explanation is called hypothesis.
A well documented and proved explanation is called theory.
A simple theory which governs a simple action is called scientific law.

A theory never becomes a scientific law unless it was very narrow to begin with.
For example, evolution (or relativity or some another theory) is still a theory because it is complex and dynamic.

So, a religion belief is a hypothesis, it is not proven by observation or experiments or research.
But a scientific theory is already proven by observation or experiments or research.

In addition:
A law describes what happens and it is often mathematical.
A theory describes how it happens and it is often non-mathematical.

A religious belief is a nonsensical idea passed down from parents to children. Since children believe whatever their parents tell them to, they will believe their parents' irrational beliefs. Religious beliefs often have no evidence for them, and a lot of evidence to the contrary.
A scientific theory is something supported by the study of nature, something backed up with plenty of evidence and common sense. Not all theories are absolutely correct, though.

A belief can exists no matter if there are facts to prove it, it is the base for faith which is the belief in something unseen. Scientific theory has a certain percentage of passing certain tests. If an idea cannot pass any tests then it is called hypothetical. Belief is related more to hypothetical than it is to theory.

A religious belief is a belief that is held in reverence due to the writings of a disciple or a profit.

A scientific theory is a belief a person has due to hypothesis of a situation, or act.

They have nothing to do with each other, or everything to do with each other, depending on your personal theory. For example, if you believe in creation, then your religious belief is that God created the heavens and earth. If you believe in the big bang theory, then you have a scientific theory based upon the hypothesis of other scientists who have gathered evidence to support their beliefs. OR, you could believe that GOD created the Big Bang!

Everything can intermingle. People just like to put restrictions on their Personal Beliefs.

A religious belief is something someone says someone else wrote and you decide to accept it as true.

A scientific theory is a prediction of the behavior of some system in nature, based on a mechanism that explains the current observations and which predicts other observations. Because of the skeptical nature of science, numerous repeated confirmations never make it exceed theory, as exceptions are constantly sought.

Actually very little, both require a measure of faith, one in the Divine, the other in the ability of man. Theory is something believed as being scientifically correct but which has no proof. For example the Theory of Evolution, it has no proof and the so called proof offered to date have been discredited and debunked. Yet many still cling to it, hmmm rather like a monkey clings to a tree Ah there is the link, Evolutionist are reverting to clinging to trees trying to find a family tree that goes back to King Kong,

Religious beliefs tend to be emotional and felt rather than analysed and thought out like scientific theory. Religion is right brain emphasised and science is left brain.

Religious belief comes by faith. Scientific theory is by proof.

A scientific theory can be proven or disproven based on evidence and facts.

A religious belief is just that, a belief with no evidence nor facts to back it up.

I believe in science, not religion.

One is spiritual and one is physical....

Science progresses through trial and error, mostly error. Every new theory or law must be skeptically and rigorously tested before acceptance. Most fail, and are swept under the rug. You never hear about these..

A belief in God holds no limits. We don't have to prove to you that God exists...it is a personal relationship. Whether you believe it or not, dosn't change anything..what will be, will be.
