Ikea, Thrift stores, Walmart, Target and Ebay You will be surprised at how inexpensive furniture can be and the myriad of places you can find it. At Ikea and other chain stores check for "last chance" and floor demo sale items they might have a nick or fading from the sun but you will get a real bargain. Good Luck!

Go to garage and estate sales. You can get great furniture that may only need a little cosmetic work. A coat of paint works wonders on an outdated dresser or table.
Check your local thrift stores, Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc. Also, try www.craigslist.com to see if they cover your area.

You can also try flea markets, Goodwill stores, college neighborhoods at the end of school year/term, or freecycle.org to find inexpensive furniture. In some locales, you can just drive around (if you have wheels) and pick it up from the sidewalks, but be sure you don't need a permit ...

Estate sales. People are dead and their heirs are ready to disperse things quickly and more than likely cheaply. The heirs don't want the stuff (or will have to pay money to move or store it) and usually let things go for a frastion of the price. But yeah, yard sales, DAV, and Salvation Army always have the really cheap stuff

The best place is yard sales - takes a little time, but you can find some very nice items for very little - next try thrift stores, but they really mark their furniture up very high, considering they get it from donations!
Have fun! :-) bb.
p.s. I forgot - try freestuff.com, too... everything is free!
