his sitting area except to poop-eat a tiny bit and drink a tiny bit. I am planning a doctor visit soon. He used to lay on my bed at night, play, and ask for pettings. NOW NOTHING!
What's wrong with Max...any advice?

you guys are great! I was planning on going ASAP anyway. He's three years old I think...he's from the humane society and they were not sure of his age. He was prolly abused in his previous home too. His paperwork actually said: Had to give him up cause we got new carpet-WHAT!!!???? He is a sweetie and I'm glad my boy and I saved him from that garbage. Poor guy...I hope he's not depressed...he doesn't handle change well. He kept slipping from the window sill and so I got him a window sill perch. I hope that's not what this sadness is about-change-I just wanted to help him and give him something soft to sit on. BLAR-there's an animal hospital down the street. Thanks everyone :)

Is your place air conditioned? Could Max be hot? People and animals eat less when they are hot, and nobody feels playful when they are uncomfortably warm.

Cats sweat through their paws, and you might want to feel his paws to see if they are especially hot feeling. If they are, you can fill the sink with tepid water, neither warm nor cold, then pick him up by the nape of the neck, like his mommy would carry him, but support his back paws, and then just dip him in the water up to his neck. Let the water wet his fur, then lift him out, flop a towel around him to blot the excess water and let the jet propelled Max launch himself out of the towel, soar across the room, and give you the dirtiest look you've ever gotten in your life. the water evaporating from his fur will cool him, and his activity level as well as his appetite will improve rather quickly. Only do this though if his paws are really hot.

If his paws are not hot, then you should call your vet and let him weigh in on this.

Cat or kitten? My kitten is going threw the same thing. She went to the vet and we found out she had flea anemia. She's not doing to well. Don't eat has much and don't clean her self. Bring you cat to the vet! It's better to be on the safe side. For my kitty pinky it may be too late.

Odds are the cat is okay, but a visit to the vet will help both of you cope.

Cats do have mood swings, just like people.

Any change of behavior such as you describe should be a matter of concern. Do the vet visit as soon as you can.
