The act of leaving it up or putting it down is not a moral act, hence we can dismiss the question. For practical reasons, I put the seat and the lid down.

The effects your actions have on others, however, is morally relevant. So be wise and seek the general principle and learn how to apply it to specific situations whether they be toilet seat positioning, making crass remarks on yahoo answers, or a myriad of other idiotic behaviors.

Not really.. we girls leave it down, right? Someone has to be inconvienienced. why should it always be the guys?

The only trouble is, though.. if i sit on a toilet with the seat up, I fall in lol. If the seat is up, you're not falling in. But if you look before you leap, this doesn't happen.

One other unfair thing is that women expect the seat to be down so they don't have to look. But if it's down and you forget to look and you sprinkle on the seat, you're still the one in trouble... you guys can't seem to win and i feel for you.

In our house, all seats are down including the lid. that way it's fair to everyone.

This question has been debated by the every philosopher of every age. The famous Socrates reasoned that if the total waste was strictly urine without dispute, it was ok. Also, Aristotle affirmed that leaving the lid up under any circumstance, unless you were hosting guests was alright. Recent objections have been made by many women of the late 20th century and early 21st. I believe the answer lies in your heart. If it is wrong to you then do it. However, if it is not, then leave that lid up!

I see no place in the bible where it says it is a sin, the same as if a woman leaves it down, There is no sin, Now if you & your wife or husband, try to start an argument over it, It is still not a sin, But it than becomes a little tactic satan uses to upset the cart. In My child hood days back in the 1950's, we many times used leaves of a tree.

I continue to be amazed at the number of women who do not, apparently, LOOK at the damn toilet before sitting down, EVEN when they live with males and should know better.

Do WE complain about y'all leaving it *down?* No, we just lift it. It's hinged, for crying out loud. It doesn't weigh 100 lbs. and isn't sprung like a bear trap or anything.

:-P

That said, at a young age I read a survey in Cosmo that said something like 85% of all women rated that their #1 pet peeve about men! Incredible! Astounding! Right then and there I thought "Heck! Who knew it'd be THAT easy to make a woman happy?" and have been putting the seat down ever since. I've been living by myself for the last 7, 8 years and I still put it down sometimes just for the practice!

I don't know why women can't do it themselves, or why they don't check before they plonk themselves down, but it doesn't matter . . . it costs me so little, and makes them so happy. *G*

And men, don't forget: girls gotta wipe, guys gotta wipe. Our aim's not near as good as we like to think.

No. I put it back down because I'm gracious, but look - we have to lift the toilet seat up when we go pee (I'm male). If we put it back down also, that's TWO actions in one trip to the bathroom. The female, if we are gracious, neither lifts nor lowers the toilet seat. That is ZERO actions in a trip to the bathroom. I think I've made my point.

Yes, by leaving the seat and lid up more bacteria spreads into the air infecting everything in the bathroom which may be harmful toward others.

I'm pretty sure the toilet seat battle is not about morals. Its about getting your *** wet. Big difference. :)

We have to lift the seat up to do our business anyway. Why not look at it as a consideration to others rather than a bad habit?
