Considering that it says man has domain over animals, does this make people think that they can do whatever they want to animals, even to be cruel?

Do Christians think cruelty to animals is not a sin?

I wouldn't say it encourages animal abuse, but it doesn't stop it either. I think if the Bible said love all animals and treat them with respect it would make a difference.

But then again, I think the Bible IS bogus and any writing that claims to be a holy book is trouble. Religion causes more trouble than it helps.

We have a management role in the earth. Cruelty to animals is sin, but killing an animal to eat it or put it out of its misery is not a sin. Telling people that the world is overpopulated and to decrease the population to save the animals is a far more serious sin because humans are more important than animals.

We were given *stewardship* of the earth. It is our duty to care for it and the animals within.
Animals were to be slaughtered as humanely as possible (given the times) and it was forbidden to use an abused animal as a sacrifice.

Some people twist the message to mean that they can do what they want with animals. But that doesn't make it a biblical perspective.
To abuse a creature, especially one that trusts you, is a horrible abuse of ones power and is a sin.

I don't know what the bible says or does not say.I finished that book a long time ago and have since read the Faery Queen. The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter(a rip off of TLOTR but still enjoyable).I just don't abuse animals or people for that matter, something that the catholic church cannot claim.

To answer your questions in order:

1. No. Actually, it discourages it.
2. Some take it that way, but they're incorrect. Parents are supposed to have "dominion" over their children. Does that mean they can abuse them? No. Wives are supposed to submit to their husbands. Does that mean that husbands are allowed to walk all over their wives and abuse them? HECK no.
3. Yes, I believe animal cruelty IS a sin.

No it does not.
Look at the laws G-d gave to Noah:
1. Prohibition of Idolatry: - There is only one God. You shall not make for yourself an idol.
2. Prohibition of Murder: - You shall not murder.
3. Prohibition of Theft: - You shall not steal.
4. Prohibition of Sexual Promiscuity: - You shall not commit adultery.
5. Prohibition of Blasphemy: - Revere God and do not blaspheme.
6. Prohibition of Cruelty to Animals: - Do not eat the flesh of a living animal.
7. Requirement to have just Laws: - You shall set up an effective government to police the preceding six laws.
The sixth law clearly states animals cannot be abused.

I think cruelty to animals is sinful. God gives us domain over them, and using them to help us is fine, but abusing them or killing them just to kill them is wrong, since we're not using the resources God gave us wisely.
