There is a small fuel test port on the injection pump beside where the injector lines hook on, the pressure at this port should be 90-120PSI at 3300RPM. As for as the symptoms of a bad fuel pump it really depends an what is happening, usually you end up with poor performance and hard starting concerns. I don't know what you have for miles on this truck but considering the age I am assuming a lot. If you drive this truck it would be worth your money to remove the pump and injectors and have a reputable diesel injection service go through them, it will make the old beast run like new and your mileage will improve.
