If life on earth was seeded by extraterrestrials, what do you suppose their purpose would have been for doing that?

Propagation of their species wouldn't make sense, since evolution is unpredictable. By depositing single-cell organisms into the oceans of young earth, the odds of their exact species someday evolving into being are astronomical.

maybe they were hippie environmentalist types intent on spreading life throughout the universe, letting it take whatever form it chanced upon, that suited the local conditions.

most extra terrestial eye witnesses describe a being almost of mankind structure. it's possible, as is single-cell evolution, and biblical creation, that mankind actually is an abandoned extra-terresteral, who evolved to fit the planets climate. it kind of rolls with evoution, and it's pretty groovy to the whole image of god complex. or what if there were a fleet of extra terrestials who got too close to the atmosphere and crashed and their body parts were dispersed over the world, and there we got all the different species of life on earth. i don't know...good question though

I don't think that theory is good as a way of explaining how life got started because it really doesn't answer anything. If not on Earth life would still have to have started on another planet. Why not skip the unnecessary step?

Did you miss that episode of Star Trek? The alien "master race" dispersed their DNA to all parts of the universe, and only when one of each dominant race all gathered on some planet did the hologram appear. Very trippy stuff. No wonder L.Ron Hubbard is still on the best seller's list.

I don't support that theory, but if it had been done the introduction of DNA would assure their eventual evolution, such is the nature of DNA.

Maybe it wasn't intentional. Either way, there isn't enough evidence so it doesn't make any sense to speculate until there is some.

Maybe it was an experiment just to see what would happen.
