It seems like if you are a young, white, straight, able-bodied, Christian, upper class, male from the northern states...

Then you would be ok if "PC" went away and we all just used whatever flaming terms we wanted.

But think about all the hurling insults everyone else would have to endur:

The elderly
black people
latin people
asian people
native americans
women
gays
lesbians
handicapped
mentally challenged people
over/under weight
autistic people
southerners
people who don't have kids
people who are not married
Jewish people
Buddhist people
Agnostic people
Muslim people
addicts
alcoholics
people who are not educated
poor people
people with cancer
people with HIV
people with Sickle Cell Anemia
people with Parkinsons

It seems like people attack "PC" because they want to hate these groups.

What do you think?

Well, I'm not young, particularly able bodied, not christian, not male and not upper class, and I live in the southwest. And I am NOT in favor of all the crap that gets passed by as PC - what you're NOT seeming to be aware of is that with all this PC stuff, it is just as easy to insult those groups as it is to be direct with your wording.

In fact, I think this PC stuff brings an air of superiority to those who insist on using it, makes them better able to belittle others with bigger words.

I'm sorry, I'm tired of my Halloween being turned into a "fall festival" because someone might get offended. That's just one example.

The more you try not to offend anyone, the more people you offend. Is it really worth all that effort?

Sure, the idea was to get rid of racist, ageist, etc comments, but it hasn't. It's just created a elite class of people who think they are better than others because they supposedly never offend anyone.

Turns out they offend most everyone who is not exactly like them.

Before this PC junk, we had none of the aforementioned issues. People generally treated everyone with respect, something long forgotten. Yes there were and are people who have no respect for other lifestyles and cultures, but we didn't have to enact laws to start determining how we all should address each other. Good manners and morals dictated most of our lives without event. If you expect that government should have to tell us all how to behave and what tags to use, it's a slippery slope we are already almost at the bottom of. This is a huge mess that is only getting worse. You must be too young to know that self respecting people take care of their own by teaching their children proper respect and social interactions.

I don't even think the above names are that offensive. Why do people get so tied up in this stuff - just say what something is and don't beat around the bush with it. I think people are too overly sensitive these days.

On the other hand, I do think nasty, slang names are wrong if they are actually hurting people, but all those terms above are just purely descriptive, in my opinion.

Why should someone who has Cancer, or Parkinsons or is underweight feel offended at these descriptions?? I don't get it. You are what you are and that is it.

There is too much BS in the world these days.

So many people care too much and whine about the little things and don't embrace life anymore, looking at the bigger picture.

Life is too short to worry about saying things in a PC way to never offend anyone; because believe me, there is no perfect way to make EVERYONE happy.

No, I think most people would agree, we don't want an all out free for all, where everyone can spew every racist, sexist, homophobic, etc, diatribe. It's just that sometimes PC seems to go overboard. My mother uses a walker but she is not spatially impaired; my friend is very short, but he is not vertically challenged. C'mon people!

I am a white southern christian woman and I think that "PC" is overrated.

We have become in this country afraid to say what we think, because the "PC" police will get you. I can't call a black person the "N" word but they can call me a cracker? And try and say anything against any religion other than Christianity and see how far you get in this life.

if you normally called me a female Caucasian youth atheist and you after "PC" called me a white young chick who don't give a rats *** about the lord id be fine with it. i normally label people by what they are not that PC thinks they are. I'm personally tired of getting in trouble for saying ***** instead of African American or squaw instead of native American. plus it will save me time while typing.

PC is pure and utter bullshit.

I am an INDIAN, my Elders refer to themselves as INDIAN.
We've been INDIANS since ya'll came here.
Now some other euromutt in DC decides that we're NATIVE AMERICAN. . . but all the laws that protect us are written to 'AMERICAN INDIAN". Like the one on this link. There is a HUGE difference in our eyes between 'natives' and INDIANS.
http://www.doi.gov/iacb/act.html

I'm absolutly tired of 'mail person' and "blah person"
People that get upset over such trivial things, are just that TRIVIAL.
Besides it' all means the SAME thing anyhow. It's just like saying 'frick" instead. Still MEANS the same thing.

So YES i want PC to go away.

People attack political "correct"ness because it is usually based on assumptions, not on reality, and because it is too often imposed by those who ASSUME things will happen rather than BECAUSE something has happened.

I'm in that group of people who will be "attacked", and I want PC to go away. I'd rather see people's true colors.
