Isn't our legal system a wonderful catch-22? Personally I would rather see strives to criminalize activities that promote remaining undocumented.

Actually the ID provided by New Haven doesn't violate any law...it simply provides ID for the residents of the town and shows them to be a resident of that town. It was provided to citizens and non citizens alike so it is hard to see how that law discriminates or violates any federal law. The federal law and consitution doesn't forbid localities from what type of ID they can issue as long as it is issued equally to all individuals that live there.

Simply one step in the legal process, this will go to the supreme court which is the intention all along. This is how you challenge the federal government. Very cool calculated case. Stay tuned.

Because New Haven is not violating any federal law-- the way PA was.... No, you're not understanding the legal issues.
Federal law does not prohibit towns from acknowledging that people exist -- which is all that the ID does -- acknowledge that the person exists.
The ID doesn't get around any immigration laws. It doesn't change their legal status. Doesn't make them immune to federal prosecution. Doesn't change a single thing with regard to their federal legal status.
If anything, the ID card makes it easier for the federal govt to prosecute these particular individuals, since the govt now has names and addresses and photos....
However, federal law specifically prohibits towns from punishing people (i.e. from imposing any criminal or civil penalties or restrictions) based on their immigration status. So, the PA down that punished people based on their immigration status was in direct contradiction to federal laws.
Nothing in federal laws prohibits towns from tracking and identifying people.

Badgerkeeb, now you are beginning to realize what politicians can, and will do !!! The laws are created, by these types of politicians which can & do have dual standards, and are so complex and ambiguas as to threaten every American, alive !!! I some times think that these politicians are working to arrive at a plan, where by the dead's rights are jeopordised!!!

Don't worry this Is far from over. This will end up In the supreme court, and I seriously believe that this decision will be overturned on appeal. The federal government cannot stop states and city municipalities from protecting their citizens from crimes committed by ILLEGALS. Stay tuned.

It is preposterous to assume a law was created with the intention of protecting people in violation of another law.
