I got a best buy store card recently & discoverd I had "debt protection". Even after I told the Rep 4 times I didnt want it while she was trying to explain it to me. Her boss just said "I must have signed for it" even if I signed in the wrong place. He basically called me stupid right to my face. Then I got a letter says I hadnt signed for it & that it would be credited back to my account. When i tried to pay Pay online HSBC told me "my SSN was invalid"! At this point when I called them they had entered the wrong SSN & apparently it was a valid number becasue i had used the card by then. So should I pay this card off & just cut it up?

I don't know if it was HSBC or Best Buy that treated you so poorly, but either way I would send a letter to the higher ups and tell them of the shabby treatment.

As for the card, if it were me I'd pay it off then throw it in the safe to gather dust. I'd let the account continue to keep my scores up AND let them pay the CRA's every month to report the 0 balance.
(it's not much for revenge, but it's a little)

I had a Best Buy credit card and they lied to me also. I would say just cut it up, but its only going to hurt you in the long run. Call and ONLY speak to a supervisor and tell them everything youv'e gone through. They told me originally when I got the card that I could pay at the store. I went there on the day it was due and they said we never accept a payment at the store. My payment was late because of them and I'd never suggest anyone get a Best Buy card.

I would pay off but, don't just cut it up call after you haved payed it off and cancel the card. When leaving the card open, it shows this on your credit rating. and don't forget identity theft........ Cancel the card....... You can always open another if needed and start over.
