I'm a teacher and am familiar with this book. Hester went through a series of ordeals--she was imprisoned, she became pregnant when her husband was away, she endured the alienation of the community, and she also had to face her husband when he returned. Most importantly, she becomes involved in a relationship that is considered taboo in more ways than one, and rather reveal her lover, she keeps his identity a secret while he does not publicly acknowledge Hester or their child. Think of the way that you would feel. In one way, she feels some sort of responsibility to Roger, but on the other hand, she loves Arthur. She is a women alone in a time when women depended on men, and both she and her child are scorned by all. I would think that she would feel rejected, alienated, angry, anxious, etc. Hester is also brave--a characteristic that may also have been rare for a woman of that time. Just put yourself into another time. Try to see from Hester's perspective.

Well, sweetheart - start first by READING THE BOOK. The only way you can write about an event in the book in reference to what Hester went through is to READ THE BOOK.

As a middle school teacher, I am concerned about the question you asked. You make me think that you are not willing to read for yourself, but rather poll the rest of us for the answers to make the assignment easier for you. If you were having some trouble and had presented your ideas, I'd be happy to explain - but you should start the school year off by making sure that you read all of your assignments, take notes and use the internet for explanation if you need additional help. Your assignment is very easy and at most, I can think of some very creative ways you can accomplish this - but this is your assignment and you should make it all yours. Good luck.

Not going to be much help on this one because what is a significant event is a guy is not to a girl. And vice versus.

What you is work up an outline of the book.

Then the four events that reaches out and grabs you by the throat. those are the four you write about.
Four that grabbed me was:
Meeting preacher.
Nag being punished (because ex ole lady was a ******)
Rifles in church.
Being put on block in center of town.
See what I mean. Just whatever grabs you. The same thing is not going to grab everybody the same. So you have to select the four events you personally think are important to you. .

You could start by when Hester first come to the "new world" without her husband.
Or when she bought her and her husbands first home.
Or when she first met the man she has the affair with, take your pick. Or better yet, read the book.
