Acne = bacteria + oil + dirt

Open up your pores with warm water, get the oil, dirt, etc. off of your face, wash with cool water to close the pores back up.

Theoretically, that should work. P.S. Proactiv works wonders!

I don't have acne, but my husband swears he gets pimples from chocolate and oily food like potato chips. I don't see how.

I have a remedy, sweetheart, that can take care of your problem, but it's not a western medicine solution, it's hundreds of years old from Japan and China. It's free and within 2 days my son's pimply face felt like a baby's back side. But you have to have an open mind and be willing to try something different. No meds. Similar to acupuncture without needles.

E-mail me back if you'd like me to tell you about it. I'm just a TX mom. If it worked on my son, it should work on you. Best wishes either way.

And you're right, they should like it or lump it. Chocolate (and Dr. Pepper) addicted beautiful girls are worth it!!

Acne is partly genetic - some families have it worse than others. It results from overactive sebaceous glands producing to much sebum, which clogs skin pores and encourage the growth of bacteria, which produce pus. Often a course of antibiotics will knock it out. As for home remedies, scrub your face 5 times a day with strong soap and hot water and a brush. Clean out the brush afterward. Use an astringent like witch hazel to close the pores afterwards. As for the chocolate, try eating a little every other day.

For Acne sufferers, chocolate does not cause breakouts, rather it is the sugar that causes it. Eat dark chocolate or none at all.

In addition to sugary foods, greasy and/or oily foods can worsen acne. A word about nuts...dont eat too much of them. While they are good for yer skin, they contain oil which in excess can cause breakouts. I hav had the experience.

Carbohydrates that are burned quickly in the body (highly processed carbohydrates) worsen acne too. Instead of cold cereal, eat old-fashioned oatmeal, hot wheat cereal, etc. Hot cereals should be cheaper than cold cereals, by the way. Dont eat too much pizza, pasta, crackers, chips, white bread etc.

Eat bright, intense colored fruits and veggies. Get enough sleep. Dont apply pressure to skin. Wash face twice a day (in the morning and after dinner.) Stay hydrated. I drink a glass of liquid at meals and between meals.

I found these general guide lines in a library book below.

Okay, first of all, NO, chocolate does not cause acne. (I'm a chocoholic, trust me, I know this.) What you need to do it treat your skin well. Wash twice a day (when you get up and before you go to bed) with a mild cleanser made for oily/acne-prone skin. Use a non-alcoholic toner if you feel you need a little extra refresh. (Don't use products with alcohol, they just dry out and aggravate the skin.) Then moisturize with a light moisturizer, formulated for oily/acne-prone skin. I like Clinique's Dramatically Different gel. It's light-weight, but still hydrating and doesn't make your skin feel greasy. Once a week, use a cleansing mask. Just treat your skin gently, there is no need to scrub the heck out of it. That just makes it irritated and red. Good luck!

While it took little less than two months for me to really see a difference, my acne, blackheads and whole lot of other skin problems I had such as eczema had completely cleared! It was totally amazing...

Your body is going through homonal changes and unfortunetly giving up chocolate is not going to help you. My advice would be to use a mild soap, maybe dove, no perfume or dyes in it. A mosturizer like Cetaphil and maybe an over the counter benzoyl peroxide or retin A. Make sure you wash your face in the am and the pm before going to bed. Lay off makeup with oils and NO PICKING!!!!!

MY METHOD:
Well, I have very sensitive skin and large pores and so far what's worked best for me is to (once in the morning, once before you go to bed) get a wash-cloth wet with warm water and get some clear, unscented glycerin soap. I think you can find it at a Vitamin Cottage. After you wash your face, dry it, then get a cottonball and put a little SeaBreeze on it and wipe your face with it. (This burns a bit) After your face dries, be absolutely sure to apply a very light, unscented lotion, like Cetaphil for example. Dry skin clogs pores, so mosturizing your skin is very important. Don't wear any make-up on your face, i.e. foundations, blushes, etc. They clog pores as well. Good luck!
P.S. Keep your dirty hands off your face and wash your pillowcases often.

I used to have an acute case of acne when I was younger for many years; it covered

my face, back, chest and posterior. I eventually healed myself without the use of

drugs. I cured myself through DIET.

-This is what you should ELIMINATE!!! quit eating eating it:

fried foods
White bread/flour
starch combinations during the same meal (e.g. potatoes and pasta)
soda/carbonated drinks
sugar/corn syrup
meat/dairy
soft foods (processed foods)
hydrogenated oils (in processed foods)
fast food

(my sister had eczema for a # of years; and I also told her to change her diet, but

she wouldn't listen. eventually, she took a massage course and it talked about the

importance of diet, so she just tried quiting fast food and soda, when she did

that, her eczema cleared up. now she listens to my advice.)

-you should increase your intake of:

fruits/vegetables, preferably organic (you should have a salad a day, at the least)
8 glasses of water a day
whole foods
black and/or brown bread (whole grains)
nuts

-you should have a balance, of 80% alkaline (mostly FRESH fruits and vegetables)

forming foods, to 20% acid forming foods.

going vegetarian/vegan/raw foodist would help. it helps set strict goals and rules

to follow. I had to adhere to these rules strictly, but mine was a severe case.

eating this way comes naturally to me now.

-----

Basically, your eliminations are poor/sluggish; thats is why some people can get

away with eating badly, but you may not. The reason changing your diet to the foods

below will help is because your eating foods that are much easier to digest and

elminate than those above. exercising will help, also.

I would check out Edgar Cayce; without his advice I would probably still suffer

today.

He also said you can help yourself through exercise and osteopathic adjustments to

your spine, he said this can create imbalances in your nervous system (if it isn't

in proper adjustment) which will affect everything else. I haven't done this yet,

as it is expensive; but I assume when I do, I will be able to better digest the

aforementioned foods. Through DIET ALONE I have been cured for a number of years.

Don't believe the people who say it doesn't effect it, I swear to god this will

help. It helped me. =) good luck!

Just so others are aware, I'm copy/pasting this to others, so they can get advice,

because I have been there. i'm not selling or advertising for anyone or anything,

i'm not spamming. don't think that, if you see this advice elsewhere.

Wow! Same age as me, well... what I used in the past years are Clearasil ointments, Life astringent, Life acne ointment. But they don't work. I've tried lots of things, until i use the ordinary natural things such as: water, soap. Just wash your face with warm water with soap not too much though, cause your face would produce more oil, because your skin is too dry. And don't pop or touch your face, it would produce more.
