I am gonna get a new TV as soon as the one I have dies, which won't be too long, I don't think. I have a 15 year old Sony 32" CRT, which weighs 200 pounds, and which I got for a mear $1700 because it was a closeout - last year's model. The new ones were $2400!!! This was back in 1991. :O   ( I bought it because Mary-Kate and Ashley were toddlers, and were so cute, I wanted to see their cute little faces bigger! The set I had before that was a 19".)

Anyway, on to the question: I am thinkin of a 32" LCD set. I will use it mainly for watchin DVDs, but I would also like to use it as a computer monitor. Is that a good idea? I also would like a DVD player to be built in, but I don't think I can get everything I want. It WOULD be nice! :)

I want to get the best one there is. What do you recommend?
And what brands do you recommend?

Thanks *SOO* much!!!   ~Cindy! :)

Is the built in dvd player a must? I wouldn't recommend it, because you will eventually need to buy a blu-ray or HDDVD player.

Since you want the best 32 inch tv you can get, your only choice is the Sharp aquos LC-32GP1U. This is one of the only full HD 32 inch tv's out there.

The best LCD's are pretty much as follows:
Sharp Aquos
LG
Sony Bravia

That may not be the order from best to worse, but those are definitely the 3 best TV's. The only company making a 1080p 32 incher is sharp.

Most HDTV's that are 32 inches only run a native 720p resolution. It can play anything you put into it, but the actual resolution of the TV is usually 1366x768. This is a little better than 720p.

Anyway, the tv's which have the built in dvd players I have seen definitely are cool, but their resolution is only 720. Also, if the dvd player breaks, or doesn't work, you will be without any TV at all. I always try to steer clear of any combo component. Plus the technology you really want is blu ray.

All in all, the 720p tv's work great. It is what I have for my bedroom and use as a computer monitor as well. I have a cheap dvd player that upconverts my old dvd's to 1080i, and I can insert a memory card of my choice and play divx videos off it. It is really cool.

Anyway, The only full hd tv is the sharp in 32 inch. The model listed above is the gamers model, which has the PC input (DVI). Otherwise, you will need an adaptor for the standard aquos 32 inch model. You wanted the best and that definitely is the best.

Get either the new Sony-XBR4 32in or the new Samsung 32in. Both of those look the best out of the 32in range but I dont know of a Tv that big with a built in DVD player and besides u wouldn't really want one built in becuase it is connected to the same circuit board as all of the other components on the tv so if the dvd player went out then ur TV goes out.

i own a 37" LG LCD. It has resolution up to 1080i. i paid around $1300 for it. It has an amazing picture. I play my 360 on it all the time. I would definitely recommend LG as an option for you.
