A hammer on on an acoustic requires more force -- you just have to hit the string harder.

A pull off actually requires a sligthly different technique. In order to maintain the volume of the note after the pull of, you can use the finger that you're pulling off to slightly pluck the string as it comes off. This will reinforce the volume of the string to sustain it through the next note. Since your plucking the string with the pad of your finger rather than with a pick or a nail, it doesn't sound as bright as the original note, and lends to the slurred quality that a pull-off wants.

An acoustic guitar is a lot different from an electric guitar, it's a more robust, throaty sound than it's rock counterpart. If you're going to try hammer-ons and pull-offs, remember to push down with a little more force, like the other guy said. They require a little more pressure than electrics.
Also, if it's not for a certain song, try holding the note for a second and recognizing the switch. f it is a certain song, try playing i on electric to get the feel for the sound, then try playing it on acoustic.

Other than striking the strings with a bit more force as recommended by Fender.riff, have the fretboard action examined by a qualified guitar technician. Perhaps the action is too high and could be lowered, making hammer-ons and pull-offs a little more easier.

try doing hammer-on's and pull-offs with more force. sometimes it is okay to hear just a little bit, but as long as you can hear it.
