I went to do the first part of it... which is that he drilled A LOT and then he would stick some file looking things inside( they were different colors... anyway after that he put a temporary filling and i have to go back again in a week. I know he will do more to it to finally put the crown. but is what i went through (the first time) the worst part or is my second visit going to be the worst part?

HELLO GABY,
YOU'VE ALREADY HAD THE TOUGHEST PART ALREADY.
FOR THE SECOND APPOINTMENT THERE MAY BE SOME FINAL FILING WITH MORE COLORED FILES AND A FILL WITH A LONG PINK SUBSTANCE CALLED GUTTA PERCHA. THIS WILL TAKE THE PLACE WHERE THE NERVE USE TO BE. THEN EVENTUALLY A CROWN WILL BE DONE FOR THIS TOOTH.
YOU WILL BE FINE.

The worst part is over. At your next visit they will continue to clean out the canal and use the files some more. The files remove the nerve and reshape the canal. They also measure how long the canals are so they know what size of Gutta Percha they will cement into the canal. After cementing the Gutta Percha they should take an xray to make sure it is to the end of the canal. If everything looks good then they will melt off the remaining Gutta Percha that is sticking out of the top of the tooth. Depending on how much tooth structure is left they will either do a build up or a post before they prep the tooth for a crown.

well i got my root canal about 2 months ago. The first visit is basically the cleansing of the tooth.
*requires 3 shots *

the second one is when he will take off the temporary filling and put on a temporary cap. then they will take a mold of your tooth with what seems like silly putty.
* requries 2 shots *

In the third visit ( about two weeks later) you will get you temporary cap off and then the dentist will put on the real one.
* requires 1 shot *

I think that the worst part is actullaly going there. I mean I absolutly hate dentist and if it were up to me, I would never go there.when I first heard that i needed a root canal, man i was about to cry. But I would say that the shot(s) are the worst. The first time was probably the worst part because you have no idea whats going on and your really nervous.

But don't worry the next two times are a lot easier then the first visit. so good luck. you'll be glad when its all over

P.S. I get my root canal on the top row, i've been told it hurts more on the top.

The worst part is over. Some teeth have more than one canal and cannot be finished in the aloted time for a rootcanal. You have to make sure each root is completely cleaned out then the second apt is the root fill. They take a rubber material called gutapercha and fill each canal then will place another temp fill until you see your regular dentist(granted that a endodontist did your rootcanal) for a perm crown.
