My husband and I are trying to get pregnant with a 4th child, but we were wondering how our 5 year old boy might react to a new member in the family.

We told our 5 year old about the upcoming baby early on and so he has had plenty of time to ask questions and help us plan for her arrival. He is really excited and in fact loves to come up and give me a hug and kiss, and then give my stomach a hug and kiss too.

I remember exactly how I behaved when I was 5. When my brother was born, I was really excited, but I was also quite jealous that he got all the attention. I had other siblings also, but before my brother was born, I was the baby of the family. Now HE's the baby of the family, and it really bugged me. Of course, I was one attention-wanting child back then [and I have to admit, I still am, lol] and not ALL 5 year olds may be that way.
On the flip side, I was VERYVERYVERY excited that I was getting a new baby brother, and your son will most likely feel the same way.

my 5 yr old can't wait to be a big brother, he talks to the baby and wants to be there when he's born. He actually told me he wants to be the dr and pull the baby out!!! I think he will do fine!

Of course he will be a little jealous; but eventually he will began to love his future brother or sister . My son had twins to deal with and he is a proud big brother.

my boy was 5 when my twins were born, he was very curious and when they got home he even gave them a toy car and ask them if they wanted to play, sometimes he felt jealous so i had to let him fed them and dressed because one time he punch one of them in the head, so with patience he got over them, and now he protect them as hell
