I noticed among a lot of 20 somethings they use their bedroom like a living room. I am so old and never had to do that. Is because of roommate issues? Because it's what they did when they lived at home with the parents?

I never did this because I worked FT at 17 thru my twenties and never did the roommate thing. I didn't have to since I refused an expensive car payment and lived frugally.

I used to live in a house with a formal living room that doesn't get used but most of the hanging out is in the dining room by the latte machine when I do have friends over. I moved to an apartment and find my kids can't have naps during the day and are royal brats because the neighbors' are always hanging in their bedroom. Nope, not always sex but enough conversation, TV or games to keep my kids from getting rest.

So for those of you who spend all your time in the bedroom instead of the living room, why do you do it? What is the appeal of staying in one room?

For some of us, the first place we lived away from home was a dorm room, where the bed was the place to sit/relax/read. And sometimes, if you share an apartment, the living room is the shared space, the space you're supposed to keep clean, so a number of personal items remain in your bedroom.

just thoughts, i know right now my bed is in reach of wireless access but my living room is numerous plaster/metal lath walls away from the only phone jack, so i sit on my bed and use it like a day bed/couch for reading and surfing the web.

Personally, my bedroom has always been my haven of sorts. I live with a roommate now and the situation isn't the best. I don't like to be in my bedroom all the time, it's small and cramped. After I've been cooped up in my office all day, I do want to come home and enjoy the spaciousness of my apartment. However, in order to avoid the rudness of my roommate, I hole myself up in my room.

It's a more private space and I feel more comfortable. Also, It's secluded from the rest of the house so if some one I do not want to be part of my "party" like parents, siblings etc, walks by I just close the door. But the living room is regarded more as a "public" space in most homes.........

I actually use my kitchen as the living room, because we have a pool table in the living room and my bedroom is just for sleeping and sex. The kitchen had the stereo and TV and we all sit at the kitchen table.

In my case my bedroom is a comfortable and private place. With the cosiness I tend to use it as a living
room . In that space I have everything I can reach for without moving far.
My bedroom is my study, my snack room and my entertainment room.
But as a family we gather in the living room
