The closest thing to a disaster that happened on our wedding day was the heat. It was July 11, 1987...a SUPER hot day in Chicago and the place of worship where our wedding was held had a new air conditioning system. Well, turned out only a couple of people knew how to operate it and they forgot about our wedding, so we were dripping through the whole ceremony.
Then, to top it off...the reception hall was supposed to be air conditioned, but when we got there, it turned out to only have fans...our poor guests...
So...you have a disaster??

No matter how much you plan, something always goes wrong. You can't control things like the weather, so if that is the only thing that goes wrong, that isn't too bad.

We had a few minor glitches at our wedding. Someone forgot the decorations for the head table so there was only one swag of tulle and the centerpiece. It looked a bit bare.

The tux shop left out a few pairs of socks so the guys were running around looking for socks last minute.

We forgot the cake knife, so when it was time for the cake cutting ceremony we were standing there like um wheres the knife. Luckily the caterer had one and the DJ ran over and found it and came to our rescuse.

Also our DJ was in the process of converting his library to CDs and did not bring his whole collection so people complained about the limited musics choices.

BUT all in all everything went pretty smooth, and most people didn't notice the little problems. (A coupled of the decorative vases broke too but oh well!)

Oh and I almost forgot the rings and the limo had to turn back to get them lol!

We, too, had a really hot day - July 29, 1989 - and the church was packed and sweltering - NO air conditioning. It's funny to look at the video to see the different ways how I 'daintily' wiped the perspiration from my face! Thankfully, the reception location had A/C.
The wedding 'disaster' was for me, personally. That morning, my eyeglasses broke - no backup and nowhere to get them fixed. I'm nearsighted, so was ok for the ceremony, but couldn't see people farther away at the reception.
However, the day went great and everything was beautiful. And the marriage has been wonderful!
CONGRATS on your 20 years together!!!

My sisters wedding many years ago, the photographer went broke and disappeared. She never got any professional photos and in those days, not everyone had a camera. She has very few photos from her day and most of them are rubbish. Sadly it was also the only family wedding that our dad was alive for. :-(
The only disaster for my wedding was that I actually went thru with it and his family turned up!!! Lol...just kidding

Oh almost forgot! My other sisters wedding, the best man broke his leg two days earlier so he had to be replaced at late notice.....the guy her man asked had bright red hair, really frizzy and long, bald on top, so in all the pics it looks like Bozo the clown was best man....and a week before the wedding an arsonist went mental in town (a Vietnam Vet, bit messed up he was) and he burnt down 4 churches and the town hall. Of course one of the churches her wedding was to be at, was destroyed. They had to move the wedding to another Uniting Church, in the next town. I think they had to change the time too, because there was already a wedding on that day.

Something goes wrong at every wedding.

At mine, we had a friend who was going to recite a poem he'd written for us as part of the ceremony. Unfortunately, he and his wife got lost and didn't show up in time. We just quietly skipped it in the ceremony and had him recite it at the reception, since he'd managed to get there well before the Best Man's toast.

The second thing that went wrong was that another couple got to the site in the middle of the ceremony. They were looking for us in the reception area and didn't see the ceremony area. You can hear him on the video calling 'Hey, I thought there was a wedding here today!'

And the last thing was that my beloved didn't do his homework and didn't know where to say 'I do', so he wound up saying it three times!

All in all, not that spectacular.

On the other hand, when my brother got married there were some bigger kerfuffles. In fact, his wife wrote an essay for a college course about the things that went wrong along the way when they were getting married and entitled it And Then the Rabbi died...because the Rabbi who was going to marry them died suddenly about a month before the wedding and they didn't find out about it until about a week before the wedding!

Other things that went wrong at that wedding included her mother showing up in a lacy white dress and glaring in every photograph, and the teddy bear they were using as a ring bearer refused to give up the rings until the Best Man swore at the stuffed toy in Korean.

Later we discovered the bear had been made in Korea. Still, the image of a man who stands about six-three with a military buzz cut (he was in the army at the time) struggling with a one foot tall teddy bear for the possession of the wedding rings is burned into my memory for all time.

The first one, yes. The videographer didn't tape the reception as promised. My husband and groomsmen got drunk while I was waiting the the basement of the church. So the ushers forgot to hand out the programs to the guests. The minister got mad at us for turning on the AC in -August-. My husband was sweating bullets and his vest was outside of his jacket collar. The car almost didn't start. Not a good start to a marriage that did turn out to be a disaster!

Luckily the second marriage went totally smoothly.

About 3 days before my brother's wedding, the reception hall was levelled by a tornado! This is Delaware, and they really don't get tornadoes--and this was the only structure damaged! They found a new hall pronto, and it all worked out for the best!

I thought our harpist wasn't going to show up. She was there about 20 minutes before the ceremony. She didn't answer her phone at all that day and I was freaking out.
Also, we took a carriage ride and a bird pooped on the carriage and a little splashed onto my arm and I was really grossed out by it. Thankfully I had a handkerchief around my bouquet.
Other than those few minor things, no disaster.

I was a guest at a wedding where a guest collapsed from the heat and they had to stop the ceremony to call an ambulance. The bride was screaming and her mother was crying while consoling. It was awful. It was memorable though, which is what people want from their weddings right?!

My parents got married in 1979, and the day they got married a propane plant blew up, haha! WHile my mom was getting ready for pictures, the fire department showed up at her door and told her they had to evacuate the area. There was one more huge propane tank that did not explode and they were worried the surrounding area would be affected.

No worries, the wedding went fine but they were quite rushed to get outta the house, haha!

This is more of a glitch than a disaster, but my husband forgot to bring our wedding bands!!! So we substituted my engagement ring and my dads wedding band for the ceremony.
