What are some good ideas for songs for father/daughter dances at weddings? My fiance is unsure of a song to use for her and her father. I should add that their relationships has been rocky the past 3-4 years. Please help us

My relationship with my father was the same , I picked the way you look tonight. I think by frank sinatra because nothing else seem to fit, also I think many of our issues, seem like he remembers me and still thinks of me as his little girl.

You mentioned that their relationship has been rocky. If they are still not that close, I would suggest a less mushy song like:

Unforgettable - Nat King Cole
Isn't She Lovely - Stevie Wonder
The Way You Look Tonight - Frank Sinatra or Tony Bennet

If they have become close, maybe a more sentimental song like:

You Raise Me Up - Josh Groban
Because You Loved Me - Celine Dion
Butterfly Kisses - Bob Carlisle

I found a few sites that may help! Good luck!

Have I Told You Lately - Van Morrison

Even though the relationship has been rocky, you should use this moment to reflect the good times and memories between the two. Remember, this is a wedding, a happy time for everyone. And what better way can she let her father know that even though they've had rough times... she still loves him.

This is an oldie...[guaranteed to get any senior citizen relatives all misty-eyed] "Thank Heavens For Little Girls"... it oughta melt Daddy pretty good too...it's a real heartbreaker and can be played in a standard "businessman's bounce" tempo in case Dad doesn't do disco. I've been at weddings where they played this for the bride 'n dad solo and it always produced a lot of warm sentiment. Sometimes 4 yrs of rocky can get healed up with a few pink-ribbon moments!

Landslide by Fleetwood Mac
Stevie Nicks wrote the song about her rocky relationship with her father, its very beautiful

i took my love, i took it down
climbed a mountain and i turned around
and i saw my reflection in the snow covered hills
'til the landslide brought it down

oh, mirror in the sky
-what is love?
-can the child within my heart rise above?
-can i sail thru the changin' ocean tides?
-can i handle the seasons of my life?
i don't know.....

well, i've been afraid of changin'
'cause i've built my life around you
but time makes you bolder
even children get older
and i'm getting older too

oh, take my love, take it down
climb a mountain and turn around
-and if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
well the landslide will bring it down

-and if you see my reflection in the snow covered hills
well the landslide will bring it down
the landslide will bring it down

uugh, I'm going through the same thing. The two suggestions I have liked so far are "I'll Remember" by Madonna, and the Hawaiian version of "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" with the ukelele.

Good luck!

Hmm.... I Loved Her First by Heartland, or something like that. It would be great for a father/daughter dance.

My Little Girl by Tim McGraw - I think is sounds appropriate for what you described. No matter how rocky the relationship he will still look at her as his little girl...dads always do.

this is what my dad and I are doing...NO ONE knows exept my fiance, my dad and the DJ of course. he and i are going to start off the dance with your typical slow song and just when you think ahh that's so nice and all that gushy stuff, we are going to break out doing the twist to the song "Twist and Shout". The dj is going to edit it for us to make it a smooth transition.... just when you think that's the way it's going to end, we go back to the original slow song and finish the dance that way!
