To me it doesn't seem like a bad start. I want to know at least an undefinite path of where I'll head in life. I know the career field I'm intersted in, so checking out colleges [online] isn't a too much of a stretch. Is it?

No, it's not too early, but I wouldn't decide anything for certain just yet. However, getting an idea of what's out there isn't a bad idea, it's a great one. If you are interested, you can see what scholarships you could qualify for at www.fastweb.com. You can then choose which scholarships you want to apply for (these are independent). If you're not that proactive, that's definitely OK :). I sure didn't do anything like that my freshman year. I just thought I would throw that out there in case you are interested. No. My 12-year old nephew is already looking into college possibilities too. Just realize that things might change between 14 and 17 or 18. That's okay, though. The fact is that the more you know about college, the more likely you are to be able to make a choice that is right for you when the time comes. Also, you know what you are aiming for, so it will give you time to prepare to apply for places which interest you.

No. That's right around the time you will be starting or already in high school. It's better to inform yourself now as to what they're looking for in a potential student.
One big mistake I made in high school was not having a general idea of the kind of college I wanted to attend during my freshman year. By the time I figured out what everyone else already knew it was practically the end of my sophomore year.
All the people I know that went to the best colleges did well during ALL four years of high school.

Definitely not. I'm assuming you're going to start your first year of high school, right? The best thing you can do to prepare for college is make the best possible grades you can in high school. When you go to apply for colleges in a few years, they all require a copy of your high school transcript and can see all your grades. So, if you want to get into a college with high admission standards, it's best to make high grades. Plus, good grades can also land you some academic scholarship money. Good luck with high school!

Of course not. Actually it will get you preapred better and save you some money. Start looking at the programs and make sure you get good grades so you can get into the college of your choice and eventually save money. Some people have no sense of direction and take classes that they dont need, but have to pay for and it gets pretty costly.
So high five for thinking about college.
