After we die we face judgment from God and are judged according to the Ten Commandments.(Ex. 20)
For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. James 2:10
“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart. Matt. 5:27-28
Whoever hates his brother is a murderer, and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 1 John 3:15
And as it is appointed for men to die once, but after this the judgment. Heb. 9:27
Once we are dead we are in big trouble because we've all broken the Ten Commandments.
But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.” Rev. 21:8
That is humbling. However even though we deserve hell for eternity, God gave us an escape route through Jesus. Jesus was God in flesh and he came to earth and lived a sinless life and was whipped, beaten, and crucified on our behalf.(Isaiah 53) God the Father punished him instead of us. This means on judgment day those who repent can go free and escape justice because Jesus already paid our fine.
In order to escape hell, Jesus commanded us to repent. To repent means to turn from sin to God. The perfect example of repentance is found in Psalm 51.
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” Mark 1:15
I tell you, no; but unless you repent you will all likewise perish. Luke 13:3
Jesus answered and said to him, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” John 3:3
You see when we repent and turn to God he gives us a new heart and new desires and as a result we are biblically born again! We are then saved from hell! Isn't that great news!!
For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast. Eph. 2:8-9
For the gifts and the calling of God are irrevocable. Rom. 11:29
All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. 2 Tim. 3:16-17
Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. 2 Tim. 2:15
Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved.” Acts 4:12
Jesus said to him, “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me. John 14:6
These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God. 1 John 5:13
**If you read Luke 16:19-31 it talks about Lazuras and the Rich man and they both died one went to hell and the other to heaven. It'll give you more insight into what happens after we die.

There is no death in the real sense of the word. So, nobody dies but it is the soul, who owns the body that decides to disengage itself from the body - a process we call death.
After death, the soul does not go to 'heaven' because it is not time to acend rather the soul takes another body and performs another role assigned to it by God- the Director/Producer of the predestined and eternal but imperishable world drama cycle.
It is the soul that makes the body a living being so without the soul we remain a corpse and without feelings or senses.Even though one can see and know everything one cannot do anything about it. If you crash your car in a fatal accident you would not think of having it back again rather you go in for another car and go about your normal duties.
So the human body is the car or chariot and the soul is the driver or the charioteer.

Ecclesiastis 9:5,6 "For the living they are conscious that they will die; but as for the dead they are conscious of nothing at all, neither do they anymore have wages, because the remembrance of them has been forgotten. (6) Also, their love and hate and their jealousy have already perished, and they have no portion anymore to time indefinate in anything that has to be done under the sun." Psalms 146:3,4 "Do not put your trust in nobles, Nor in the son of earthling man, to whom no salvation belongs. (4) His spirit goes out, he goes back to the ground: In that day his thoughts do perish." Our senses, thoughts and memories are all part of our nervous system and brain, when they die so do our senses. So no, we can't see, hear, think or talk when we die. However, that is not the end, the Bible aslo says whist we sleep, unknowing in death we are ALL awaiting a resurrection, John 5:28, "Do not marvel at this, because the hour is coming when ALL those in the memorial tombs will come out, those who did good things to a resurrection of life, those who practised vile things to a resurrection of judgement."

I personally believe that our bodies and everything physical returns to the Earth where it came from. All of the various elements we are made up of just transfer back.
This includes memories, as they are only electrical impulses in the brain.
However, our spirits move on to a new life, depending on the choices you made in this one your next one could be better, or worse. Memories, as I said before, do not go with, so you wouldn't be likely to be aware of your past life, unless it made a deep impression on your spirit. This manifests itself through recognition only. You may recognise someone, but wouldn't know how, as there is no memory.

Our soul is asleep and then we ROT. I do not believe we go straight to Heaven. 1 Thessalonians 4:16 NIV For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

Yes. You are NOT the body. You are a soul and once the body is buried worms eat it. Or if it is cremated turns to ashes. Whatever you were thinking of at the time of death you attain that body. The soul goes to receive its judgement - IMMEDIATELY and is put into a mothers womb to develop another body. Conciousness created by the soul in this life is a prepartion for the next body. Say a person is acting like a pig in this life so in his next body he gets to be a pig. Nobody can get away from the due punishment. This is called karma one does something wicked - he is punished. One is pious he gets rewarded. The subtle body of mind intelligence and ego carries the soul to next body.
Bhagavad-gita as it is Chp 15 text 8
sariram yad avapnoti

SYNONYMS
sariram--body; yat--as much as; avapnoti--gets; yat--that which; ca--also; api--virtually; utkramati--gives up; isvarah--the lord of the body; grhitva--taking; etani--all these; samyati--goes away; vayuh--air; gandhan--smell; iva--like; asayat--from the flower.
TRANSLATION
The living entity in the material world carries his different conceptions of life from one body to another as the air carries aromas.
PURPORT
Here the living entity is described as isvara, the controller of his own body. If he likes, he can change his body to a higher grade, and if he likes he can move to a lower class. Minute independence is there. The change his body undergoes depends upon him. At the time of death, the consciousness he has created will carry him on to the next type of body. If he has made his consciousness like that of a cat or dog, he is sure to change to a cat's or dog's body. And, if he has fixed his consciousness on godly consciousness, he will be transferred to Krsnaloka in the spiritual world and will associate with Krsna. It is a false claim that after the annihilation of this body everything is finished. The individual soul is transmigrating from one body to another, and his present body and present activities are the background of his next body. One gets a different body according to karma, and he has to quit this body in due course. It is stated here that the subtle body, which carries the conception of the next body, develops another body in the next life. This process of transmigrating from one body to another and struggling while in the body is called karsati or struggle for existence.
