There may be, but Bishop Usher's calculation placed the world's age at more like 6,000 years, if that's what you're asking about.

If you read Genesis 1 and 2 reasonably carefully you'll notice the chronology is just a little vague. I believe the purpose of the story of creation is to show us God's role in the creation, not to give us a complete story of how it was done.

I don't see much conflict between scientific and scriptural explanations of the creation.

So, I don't believe the world is 2,000 years old, or 6,000 years old. I'm not sure just how old it really is, and I doubt if many scientists are either. But I'll accept reasonable theories as just that--theories.

It really doesn't affect my life that much one way or the other. My day is still 24 hours.

The earth is most likely around the age scientists figure it to be: 4.5 billion years old.

Genesis talks of the heavens and earth being created in Chap. 1, verse 1. but billions of years could have passed between verse 1 and verse 2.

Gen. chap. 1:2 and beyond talks about the FORMING of the already existing earth and this is where Creationists have it wrong by thinking that the earth was created in this time frame.

Creationists believe that the earth formed over the period of only 7 literal days which ended about 6,000 years ago.

However the Bible talked of grass shooting forth, vegetation bearing seed and fruit trees yielding fruit in JUST ONE of the "days" mentioned. (Gen. 1:11-13)

To add to that, and before that took place, Gen. 1:9-13 tells us that dry land appeared within the third creative "day" or stage.

Since we see that these processes occur over a much longer period of time, it can be reasonable to conclude that the "day" mentioned in the first chapter of Gen. could also have simply meant a "period of time".

No, But I believe the world is only about 6000 years old. Millions and billions of years is an evolutionary pipe dream. God spoke the world into existance about 6000 years ago. About 4000 years ago there was a flood, which left ample evidence of itself..... Fossils, oil, coal, Grand canyon, sea shells on Mt Everest, the white cliffs of Dover, Zion National Park, and the list goes on and on. About 2000 years ago Christ came and died for the sins of thre world. I know all you so called scientists will say this guy is nothing but an ignorant fundie. But some day you will stand before God and answer to him for your refusal to believe his word the Bible. Yes in the beginning God... Not in the beginning dirt.... Come to Christ

You're referring to the Young Earth theorists I believe. I think they talk about 6000 years but I don't recall the precice number. Yes, there are people that really believe this but there's not many. It's a small minority. They think Genesis is literally true and they think they can date the creation through clues in the bible.

The 2000 date comes from the Christian calendar where scholars tried to create a calendar based on the birth of Jesus. B.C stands for before Christ (Jesus)
A.D. is Latin for in the year of our Lord.

The actual date may be off by a few years.

How could the world only be 2000 years old, if Jesus was born 2000 years ago.....how do they explain all the history of the Old Testament??

Anyway, it doesn't matter how old the earth is. What matters is: WHO put it here????
