Do you have any idea how shitty southern CA is right now? Traffic, smog, crime, low paying jobs, high rents. That is just a start. It ain't like you see on TV and Hollywood movies. It is all a myth!!!
You gotta have some skills ie look like a supermodel, or have a college degree in something useful before you can make it in Southern California. Of course, if you have no morals it is a lot easier.

I don't know about the finances, but i'm here to encourage you and refute the first poster.
CA is amazing. i've been here my whole life. Southern Ca (socal) does have smog, but the situation has improving over the years. and yes there is a lot of traffic. but in socal there is always something to do and it has the msot amazing beaches. it is always warm and sunny, and it is so lively.
but i myself live in northern CA(norcal), though i go to school in socal. norcal is amazing it is so chill and laid back, and the people are so down to earth. there is les traffic and it isn't always as warm as socal, but you actually get real seasons. in norcal you are never more than two hours from the coast, forests, or mountains. it is an outdoor paradise. norcal has some of the best cuisine in the world especially san francisco. norcal is very diverse and very cultured, with so much always going on.
i hope that this dream of yours comes true, sorry i couldn't be of more help

I live in Central Ca. The cheapest part of the state to live in, but also the smoggiest (contends with So. Cal.).
I love living here, but it is very expensive. The salary I earn in California qualifies me as "middle class." If I were to earn the same salary in Mississippi, I would be in the "upper class" bracket.
Save your money and have a good job lined up before coming here.
Good luck.

Much easier than it is to live here. The cost of living is pretty high - though the recent weakness of the dollar against the pound might help you out a bit, as your savings will go further.

California is the most expensive state to live in, other than Hawaii. You'll need a lot of money to live here, and a minimum wage job won't cut it. And, at the risk of sounding unfriendly...
I'm a native Californian, and there are already PLENTY of people living here...please consider another state...

You need to start reading the forums on www.citydata.com. California is FANTASTIC! I prefer NorCal. If you are into the beach then move to SoCal. Both are excellent picks.

Are you coming illegal or legal? California has nice parts. In the L.A are there is alot of smog, illegals, racist indivuals, and everything is not cheap. However, there are some wonderful places in CA.

I would not move to california. its not what people think. its too overcrowded and expensive. if i was able to move, i would move to boise, idaho. its just like sacramento, california except with only a fraction of the people. the winters are a bit colder, but its a beautiful, peaceful place. if you still decide to move to california stay away from the big cities.
